Video footage allegedly shows a 4-year-old Texas child desperately begging his father for bread and water before his death.

That father, 28-year-old Brandon Lee Cervera was arrested on Thursday in connection with the August death of his 4-year-old son Benjamin Cervera, Fox29 in San Antonio reports.

Little Benjamin Cervera was brought to the emergency room of the Children's Hospital of San Antonio in August covered in bruises, according to an arrest report obtained by Fox29. The child, who was close to his 5th birthday, was also only wearing a disposable diaper, local outlet KABB reports.

Cellphone footage taken by a family member and now in the hands of police allegedly showed the boy’s father denying the child food as the boy “shaking uncontrollably, crying, and begging for bread and water,” according to police documents obtained by KABB. Other footage allegedly shows the child being forced to “eat bread crumbs off the bathroom floor without the use of his hands” as well as being forced to drink hand sanitizer.

According to the arrest report, a nurse at the Children's Hospital of San Antonio called police to the emergency room on Aug. 17, 2021, after they became suspicious of the injuries sustained by 4-year-old Benjamin Cervera. The little boy was extremely thin and had multiple bruises all over his body in various stages of healing.

After obtaining a search warrant, detectives searched the apartment and found locks on the refrigerator, kitchen cabinets, pantry door and Benjamin's bedroom door, which were meant to lock him inside the room.

Photos and videos also showed Benjamin's physical deterioration leading up to his death, which was ruled that the little boy starved to death.

Cervera is being held at the Bexar County Jail in San Antonio on a $500,000 bond.

I remember the case of little Teghan Skiba who was tortured by her mother's boyfriend while the mother was off on two-week active duty with either the Army Reserve or National Guard. He finally took her to the hospital, and a nurse called the local police who arrested him at the hospital, if my memory serves. He is facing the death penalty now.

This late, late arrest makes no sense. Hoping we hear more about that. Was he doing the same thing to another child and was reported and LE or who/what ever spoke up about the previous horror of the little boy or what?
Guessing that the boy wasn't taken to a doctor or a hospital because they are required to report suspected abuse. SMH, SMH.

San Antonio police got a hold of the shocking footage from a family member’s phone before arresting him on a charge of injury to a child, KSAT reports.

The four-year-old boy was unresponsive with bruises on his body when he was taken to the hospital on August 17, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit also notes that authorities found cabinets and the refrigerator of the boy’s Texas home to be locked.

The affidavit also reveals that Benjamin had been found sleeping in a locked room with a frameless mattress, covered in urine stains.

The woman who identifies herself as the deceased boy’s mom, Lala Flores, recently took to Facebook to say “justice will be served.”

The affidavit references another person who appears to be a second suspect in the case.

However, as of Friday morning, that person had not been arrested.

This week, Bexar County Grand Juries handed down 306 felony indictments.

Brandon Cervera and Miranda Casarez are charged in separate indictments with assault-intentionally or knowingly causing serious bodily injury by omission to a child. Cervera’s indictment alleges that on Aug. 17, 2021, Cervera intentionally and knowingly, by omission, caused serious bodily injury to Benjamin Cervera, a child who was 14 years of age or younger, in that Brandon Cervera had assumed care, custody and control of Benjamin Cervera and failed to provide adequate nutrition and hydration for Benjamin Cervera and that Brandon Cervera failed to seek proper medical care for Benjamin Cervera. It also alleges Brandon Cervera had a legal or statutory duty to act and failed to do so in that Brandon Cervera failed to provide adequate nutrition for Benjamin Cervera and that Brandon Cervera failed to seek proper medical care for Benjamin Cervera. Casarez’ s indictment alleges that on Aug. 17, 2021, Casarez intentionally and knowingly, by omission, caused serious bodily injury to Benjamin Cervera, a child who was 14 years of age or younger and that Casarez had assumed care, custody and control of Benjamin Cervera and failed to do so in that Casarez failed to provide adequate nutrition and hydration for Benjamin Cervera and that Casarez failed to seek proper medical care for Benjamin Cervera. The indictment also alleges that Casarez intentionally and knowingly caused serious bodily injury to Benjamin Cervera by withholding food and water from Benjamin Cervera. The Family Violence Division is prosecuting these cases in the 186th District Court. Assault-intentionally or knowingly causing serious bodily injury by omission to a child is a first-degree felony punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.
