Dallas priest goes missing after 'credible' sexual-abuse allegations, bishop says

A Dallas priest accused of molesting teens and taking at least $60,000 from his parish now is missing, Roman Catholic Church officials said.

At St. Cecilia Catholic Church, where the Rev. Edmundo Paredes had served for 27 years, parishioners said Sunday that he might have fled to his native Philippines, where he has been taking annual vacations.

Bishop Edward Burns told parishioners over the weekend that the Dallas Diocese has hired two private investigators to try to track Paredes down.

"Now that we know of his criminal sexual acts, we want to get a handle on him," Burns said.

A number of times, the Church has sent these priests into clinics for "treatment", reassigned them overseas, or otherwise made them unavailable when the authorities come knocking.

I see no reason to believe this is not the case this time.

It’s believed he fled to the Philippines. If the church is covering for him, it’s only to protect the church’s reputation. He stole a big chunk of change, so I don’t see them trying to protect him as an individual. Jmo

I'm actually surprised that more of these outlaw priests have not done this. Did the bishops and others who protected these pedophiles not realize they were protecting criminals?

IMO, yes they did. But, they were more interested in protecting "the church".

This could be "protecting the church" if they are afraid he would name others to get a reduced sentence. In at least some of the cases, it seems pedophile priests know each other. $60K is much cheaper than the millions the Catholic church would pay in claims.
