"FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas – The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office has exhumed the remains of a man in a 1964 cold case in hopes new technological advancement will provide fresh leads and bring closure.

The remains were exhumed on July 10. The man, described as a dark-haired white male, approximately 6 feet tall, around 50 years of age, and weighing between 180-185 pounds, was found decapitated, with his hands and legs amputated off FM 359 near the Jones Creek bridge on June 11, 1964.''

''Detectives said the 6-foot, 180-to-185-pound man had a broken rib but no identifying marks, proving difficult for investigators to identify the victim or detain those responsible.
The Harris County Medical Examiner's Office held the remains for 20 years before burial in 1984.

"With the significant advancements in forensic biology and DNA analysis, we hope to uncover new information that was previously unattainable," Sheriff Eric Fagan said. "Our goal is to bring justice to the victim and provide answers to any surviving family members."

He is listed on NamUs as UP4535.

From Doe Network:

Distinguishing Marks/Features: Light olive complexion. Possibly type O blood. Suffered from pleurisy, in which he would have had chest pain and a cough.

''A dark-haired white male, the victim was approximately 6 feet tall, around 50 years of age, and weighed between 180-185 pounds. He was found decapitated with his hands and legs amputated. It is estimated that his body had been left in a ditch on June 11, 1964. Despite extensive efforts, authorities were unable to identify the victim or apprehend those responsible.

The victim also had a broken rib, but no identifying marks. For 20 years, the remains were held at the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office. Then in 1984, they were buried at San Gabriel Cemetery in Richmond.

Anyone with information relating to this case is encouraged to contact the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office at 281-341-4665, option 1 or Cold Case Detective Scott Minyard at 281-341-4651''.

''Last week, the torso was exhumed from the cemetery and Minyard says when they opened the casket, the body had fully decomposed but his skeleton was intact or as the detective put it, “the bones were in pretty good shape.”

The other cryptic part of this John Doe saga is not just who he is but what happened to him and who is responsible. Theories have ranged from a Mafia-style killing to wild animal attacks, Minyard says.

The DNA work will hope to answer that, but Minyard says, “the first goal in this case would be to identify this gentleman's family and hopefully lead to an identification.''
