My mom witnessed this awful event. The man is believed to be homeless. He was crossing an on ramp to a busy highway. My mom was horrified and lots of people stopped to help.

POST MORTEM WARNING

Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry. Is she doing okay after seeing that? I’m glad people stopped to help, but nobody recognized him?
Yes a lot of other people witnessed it. It was very traumatic. People that drive in the area often said they recognized him as a homeless man who had been in the area a while. There was a shopping cart filled with items that appeared to belong to him, they just don't have any ID. I really hope he can be identified.

How very sad. Leaving the scene after you hit someone with your car is inexcusable. I hope they catch the driver.
I will just never understand how someone could do that. If I hit someone with my car, I would IMMEDIATELY call emergency services. I don’t care if I know them or not, I wouldn’t leave them there to die.

Oh that’s just so sad. Nobody who’s seen him around knew any possible name or anything? So sad. I hope someone comes forward and identifies him soon.

I imagine you don't always stop immediately because your mind doesn't understand what just happened. But a bit up the road, I can't see not pulling over, calling 911, and trying to turn around and go back to the scene.

I don't know if it's likely to not realize what happened during daylight hours. I have heard of drivers thinking they hit an animal on a dark road in the middle of the night.

So my comment applies if the driver knew but kept driving, which seems likely here, since bystanders were around to see what happened. IMO.

Yes the car stopped briefly then took off speeding. They had to have known what happened. Just inexcusable.
