Clues inside the backpack led to the man's identity: an old receipt - so weathered it was falling apart - had Nunez's name. The receipt was from R.P. Truck Repair, an 18-wheeler storage lot and repair shop. Investigators also found a business card for the shop.

The business provided Harris and his partner, officer Fil Waters, a copy of Nunez's driver's license. They then located Nunez's son, whom he hadn't seen in nearly 20 years. The man provided a DNA sample that led them to positively identity Nunez.
