HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- Deputies are continuing their investigation into a double murder after they say a husband and a wife were found dead in a west Harris County home on Monday. According to the medical examiner's office, one of the victims was shot in the face, and the other was shot twice in the head.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said that just before 6 a.m. on Monday morning, they went to a home on Bent Springs Lane near Clay Road and the Grand Parkway for a shooting.

Originally, the sheriff's office said they didn't know if this was a murder-suicide or a double homicide, but in an update, confirmed that investigators believe the couple was murdered.

The victims have been identified as a couple, Christopher and Trinette Lopez.

The 7 yr old child who survived is an adopted cousin and not a foster child.

"They told us they have an idea of who is responsible for killing their parents.

"We do," said Kristina. "Police do have a suspect but they're asking us to keep everything under wraps until they have more concrete evidence so it doesn't threaten the investigation."

Rest in peace, Christopher and Trinette !

How traumatic for those kids, adults and the younger ones. 😭
Despicable.
You should be able to feel safe in your own home.

Suspect arrested

What we know:
According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the shooting was reported shortly after 5 a.m. on Bent Springs Lane, in a neighborhood near Mason Road and Clay Road. Deputies arrived to find 52-year-old Christopher Lopez and 52-year-old Trinette Lopez dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

The sheriff says a 7-year-old foster child and two adult children in their 20s were also in the house, but they were not injured.

The arrested suspect was identified as 42-year-old Norman Lee Johnson. According to Gonzalez, Johnson is the biological father of the victim’s adoptive juvenile daughter.

Johnson is the biological father of the 7-year-old and a cousin of Trinette Lopez, according to Rayson.

Investigators say they believe the motive for the murder stemmed from the custody of the 7-year-old, which Johnson protested for years, according to the family. They say he made multiple threats, and in October 2024, he was charged with harassment after court records show he threatened to kill Christopher Lopez over the same custody issue. He was never arrested.

Investigators say they believe Johnson drove from Round Rock, where he lives, to Harris County to kill the couple.

"My family took his daughter in when he lost custody. We raised her, loved her, and kept her safe. We were repaid by him taking their lives, and taking away the family his daughter loved and trusted," Rayson added.
