Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a rural area south of Peñitas on Dec. 10, 2017, after receiving a call from Border Patrol agents who discovered the body, according to a Facebook post by the department.


There were no visible signs of foul play, and the man’s autopsy results are still pending.

At the time of his death, the man was wearing blue jeans with a red, white and blue canvas belt and black sneakers. He has tattoos on his arms. According to the social media post, he has two skulls tattooed on his lower forearm, the words “Bendiceme Mi Nina” on his upper forearm and a grim reaper tattoo on his upper right forearm.

BODY OF UNIDENTIFIED MALE FOUND IN THE RIO GRANDE RIVER NEAR PENITAS

Sheriff’s Investigators are asking for the public’s help to identify a body found in the Rio Grande River.

On Sunday December 10, 2017, Sheriff’s Investigators responded to the rural area south of the City of Penitas in reference to a body in the Rio Grande River. Upon arrival, Deputies met with Border Patrol agents who discovered the body.

The body was extracted from the water with assistance from the Penitas and Palmview Fire Department. Sheriff’s Investigators examined the body, which displayed moderate signs of decomposition, and determined it was that of a young adult male with short dark-colored hair. A Hidalgo County Justice of the Peace responded to the location to pronounce the death and ordered an autopsy. The autopsy results are still pending; however, there were no visible signs of foul play
