Couple collecting scrap metal finds human remains near ditch in southeast Houston

"HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A couple collecting scrap metal ended up discovering human remains near a ditch Tuesday morning in southeast Houston.

HPD said that around 9:15 a.m., the couple notified them about the apparent human skull and other bones in the 4100 block of Almeda Genoa.

Homicide investigators have the area blocked off to try to preserve the scene.

Detective Michael Barrow told ABC13 the next step is for the medical examiner to collect the remains, take them to a lab and test them to try to identify the person.

Barrow said the bones were clean and had been there a while, confirming they are definitely human remains.

Authorities will now check on any missing person cases in the area."

Trung Quang Ngo (MP18989) disappeared in Kathy, TX (about 40 minutes away) in 2013. It is assumed he was taken against his will. His clothing could match the description:

"LSW BLK SWEATER BLK T SHIRT DRK BLU JEANS BLK SH0ES, Steel Toe Camel colored work boots"

Biggest issue is height, he's listed as 5'6"-5'8"

Cheetah was also sold by the now-defunct Mervyn’s department stores. That would be from a ways back, though - I think they closed the last store in 2008?

Haven't heard of Mervyn's in a while - they did have a number of locations in Texas, so it wouldn't be impossible. We also don't know PMI either (although the news report did say that the bones had been there "a while"), so he could have been there for a 5+ years for all we know.
