I sent an email to detective Mike Cole with Walker County back in August of this year regarding a suspicion I had. Pivoting off of the lady who remembered giving her a ride from Oakwood, Texas a few months before she was found, I began looking into girls homes in North Texas, closer to that location as opposed to the ones along the coast like the one in Galveston that has been mentioned numerous times. Here is what I sent him:

"I have a theory on WCJD. A lady said she had given this girl a ride months before she was found from Oakwood, Texas to Huntsville. Oakwood is not far from Fairfield. There's a children's home called Pleasant Hill in Fairfield. If Jane Doe came from there, she would possibly be in the Fairfield yearbooks for either 1979 or 1980. It's it possible for you to get a list of all children admitted to the facility in those two years (and if any of them ran away) and then look through the yearbooks? If someone is found who resembles her, it would be easy to confirm if they're missing or not."

The reply back from Det. Cole was rather short and tart:

"This is Mike Cole from the Walker County Sheriff Dept. I have not responded because I have not had time to do so. I am currently actively working ( 3 ) unsolved missing persons / homicide cases and preparing for an upcoming trial.

I will respond when I can sit and have the case file in front of me to correctly share information.

I apologize if the timing of not responding has offended you in any way. I appreciate your input and thank you in advance for any assistance.

Perhaps someone else could look into this lead a little more? I don't have Classmates anymore so I can't look through the yearbooks. Also, not sure if the kids at Pleasant Hill would have attended Fairfield Schools or if like some other children's homes, they were taught on site.

BTW.... I sent the original email 8/22 and he didn't reply until 9/2 a day after I sent him another email asking if he thought this may be a lead.

I can only find her as a freshman in 1978 at Fairfield - page 32, initials P.S.

I had a quick look for her to see if she’s still alive - one listing for someone the same name in a phone directory in jasper, Tx. Not sure if it’s the same person. I only had a very quick look.

I got the same results! I tried more formal variations of the first name "P" but didn't get anything there, either. I have such a hard time matching faces but figured since I'd already spent so much time looking and comparing that I'd go ahead and post just for the heck of it. Thanks for checking it out!

Sometimes when I am trying to figure out a person I like to write it out on my whiteboard (in my apartment) to figure out the little details. I think I might just do that for this. I'll see what I come up with for this information.

I know she was reported 5 months after WCJD was found but still had to post her because her photos look so similar to what I imagine she'd look like. Could there be a timeline discrepancy in Regina's case?

She does have a similar "look", but aside from the timeline, Regina would also be pushing the age limit, and the medical examiners would have overlooked a 4-5 inch scar on WCJD's calf.

Since they noted the scar on WCJD's forehead, and the horrible bite mark, it seems unlikely they would have overlooked a large scar on her leg.

Geezus....imagine the hours we’ve all put into trying to identify this poor girl. It’s incredible. I know I’ve spent sleepless nights combing through prison records, yearbooks, and newspaper archives for starters, and I’ve probably put in the least amount of sleuthing here. Someone is missing her! Where are they? How do we find them? It’s so heartbreaking to know that we all have the answers they have been searching for. Because I truly feel that someone is trying to find her. I hope they connect to the internet one day and see us...and know that we have all loved their girl since we met her. <3

True that. You guys have all worked so hard and I hope it will be the Webslueths Community that figures it out. I was 12 when this young lady passed away and I live about as far away from Texas as you can get (Queensland, Australia), yet there are not too many days that go past that I don’t think about this, the Sumpter County Does and that Mysterious Man who passed away on beach in Adelaide in 1948. <3 .

So she was going to see her boyfriend at Ellis. Seeing as how she was obviously not 18 or 19, her boyfriend probably would have been the same age, I guess. But I would think that someone his age wouldn't have been at the prison. Maybe he worked as a janitor or something and got a ride from her. Maybe he was released when she got there and she got a ride from her; that might be why no one recognized her, because there was no one there that recognized her. Then on the way home something went wrong and what happened happened.

So I wonder, if she was going to see a prisoner, wouldnt they decline a minor visitation if not accompanied by an adult?
I would imagine if she was going to say she was 18 or 19, they would want to see ID.
Was she originally traveling with someone over 18, expecting to return with them after they went to the prison? Would explain lack of bags and proper footwear..makes me wonder if she never expected to hitchhike.
Arguement ensues, so she got out and decided to hitchhike there..would explain the comment made to the waitress.."who cares?" Maybe this individual came back for her...enraged.
So many scenarios run through my head...

I know that memories fade as time passes, but people her age who knew her about time she was killed are about 60 now. Someone knows something, someone must remember her.

I know I sound very naive. Her case is just making me so sad. She was so young and it's been 40 years. Reminds me of Corona Girl - Sue Ann Huskey. It turned out that she had a lot of siblings, who said they've been wondering what happened to her, but it seems like she was never reported missing.
I'm not trying to judge anyone, but in cases like these it seems like people say they care, but in fact they just don't care enough.

Hi, I am a long time lurker of this board but a first time poster and thought I would throw in my two-cents. I understand that’s it’s hard to fathom and agree with you when it comes to child John/Jane Does but I think for many adult John/Jane Does when there are issues of abuse, mental illness, drugs or dysfunction in families the circumstances under which they left were likely not very positive and there wasn’t the desire for either party to keep in touch. Unfortunately, not everyone who is estranged from family is in search of a happy reunion. Even if an adult is reported missing and the police do find them, they don’t have to tell the family of the person’s whereabouts only that they have been found. If the person does not contact family, their family may still keep searching for them but would likely be hesitant to report them missing again.

There was still a culture of "oh, she is a runaway" no priority, reported but no official report written down and kept..Maybe she was in a girls home....already a girl with a "negative stamp or marked history", the "lesser" people...and I don't mean I think that, not at all....I mean the world was different and things were perceived different...and also LE thought different about the missing...

Sorry for the delay, but I came up with an approximate timeline for Jane Doe. Take this with a grain of salt, as my dates are approximate here. (I will refer to WCJD as Jane for my purposes.)

• c. November 2, 1961 - November 1, 1966: Jane is born, perhaps in Texas.
• c. September 4, 1980 - October 31, 1980: Jane gets her ears pierced.
• October 31, 1980 @ ~6:30 PM: Jane asks for instructions to the Ellis Prison Farm at the South End Gulf Station
• October 31, 1980 @ ~6:39 PM: Jane arrives at the Hitch 'N' Post Truck Stop and once again asks for directions to the Ellis Prison Farm (this is where the Waitress draws up a map for her)
• October 31 - November 1, 1980 @ 6:44 PM - 6:20 AM: Jane is murdered by unknown individual(s)
• October 31 - November 1, 1980 @ 6:44 PM - 9:20 AM: Jane is dumped on I-45

• November 1, 1980 @ ~9:20 AM: Jane is found murdered
