Thought of the day... Google shows military housing in the Corpus Christi area and Naval base near Port Aransas... Could WCJD have been a rebel child from a military or navy family? Perhaps she hadn't been in town long when she took off for the prison...

WOW! Thank you for that info! It definitely seems possible...now if her story is spread by people who lived in that area during that time!

I have never been on Reddit, yet I hear so much about it.

Orange Socks and Ruthie's cases are really similar. I would be really curious to know about more cases of young female hitchhikers discovered like that, who may not be Jane Does.

Its actually extremely likely that Henry Lee Lucas killed orange socks. He provided a lot of details that suggest he was responsible

I thought there was good evidence that he wasn't actually in Texas at the time of her death and that's why his sentence was commuted. (?)

Does anyone know if Lucas gave LE details only known to the killer?

From my understanding, he did not. He studied the post-mortem pic and had a bit of background info before confessing. He did make up/tell the truth the story about her name being Joanie or Judy, and her refusing intercourse with him. But I don't think he actually killed her.

ETA She also had chronic salpignitis from gonorrhea. Unless he used protection (which he very well may have) then he might've gotten it too.

The song "I Am A Child" by Neil Young (which I am currently listening to) reminds me of our girl. She was just a child, after all. She didn't have a chance to pave her way. It's heartbreaking.

OK, so I posted edited versions of her story on Reddit. I wrote the same one as I posted yesterday verbatim to the r/grateful doe, but for the Texas one I abbreviated it. No responses yet.

Here are the links.

It looks like the story you posted in the Texas forum was removed :(

It's true that Lucas' involvement with Joanie Doe is contested. I guess it's impossible to know for sure because A. he's dead, and B. he was a sicko who lied about killing people which caused a lot of confusion for LE and I imagine sadness for families.

On another note, I was thinking more about anthropological examination of bones, etc, to find out where she may have lived. Does anyone know how long it takes to carry out such tests, or if they are very expensive? I was just wondering because certain UIDs do have the exam (eg SGJD) but others don't (our Ruthie) and I wonder how they choose who to do the examinations on? If its not costly or time consuming it seems natural that it should be done for all UIDs

I just reposted in the Texas forum. Hopefully it isn't removed this time...Thanks again for doing this, Springrain.

Your copy was removed too! Thanks for reposting it though. Wonder why they keep removing it? I can't imagine any rule trying to identify a deceased teenager breaks!

Bizarre. I made sure not to include anything I thought could be deemed as offensive, like any of the details of her murder. This is what I included:

-found november 1, 1980 in huntsville, tx.
-spoke with a waitress at hitch 'n' truck stop and claimed to be 19, from aransas pass/rockport tx - when they asked if her parents knew where she was, she said "who cares?"
-extensive searches of aransas pass/rockport yearbooks turned up empty - 5'6, 105 lbs., she had hazel eyes and 10'' long brown hair in "wing cut"
-distinctive scar running from left eyebrow to eyelid
-if you'd like more information, here are a couple links. https://www.facebook.com/WhoWasWalkerCountyJaneDoe/ https://youtu.be/AjPv-cQN0AE http://1980walkercountyjanedoe.weebly.com/ http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sho...ov-80-*GRAPHIC* http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/91uftx.html
if you have a runaway sister, friend, cousin, classmate, etc. from that time period who resembles her, and whose whereabouts are still unknown, please chime in @ websleuths and/or follow the directions under "about" on the weebly website

We'll probably never know who killed OS, what with all the confusion about Henry Lee Lucas. But I do think he could have killed our Ruthie.

I truly wonder why no examination of her bones has been completed! I imagine it may cost a lot, but we need to close the case and bring our girl home. It would be a better investment to do the analysis to narrow down the location she was from. She may not have been from Texas, as she appeared disheveled, and she could have lied.

Why would this be taken down? There was nothing offensive or anything! Seems quite strange that it would be shut down.

Argh! Thanks so much for trying, you two! I wonder if it's because the forum is framed around current events? Maybe the post title needs to reference 35 years ago today? If you write a private msg to /r/Texas you will be emailing the mods and they may be able to explain?

Would the WS links be the reason they are removing them?

I don't think so, because on the Grateful Doe subReddit post I mentioned and linked to Websleuths.
