Yes, this one is much better than their previous one.
Still like yours better, wonder how old that scar is and how long she had it?

I prefer yours personally, your eye shape for her is more accurate I think.

Does anyone know if the sandals were taken to the lab? I can't find any indication if they were or not.

Also, judging from her clothing I am inclined to think she was from a slightly cooler location. I'm not sure how TX was at that time, but I just Googled Huntsville weather today and it was 63 F (along with a flood warning, so if you live in Huntsville, stay safe!)

I suppose maybe if you are not used to cool, 63 F would be cold. I wouldn't find 63 F wearing a sweater uncomfortable necessarily, but if I knew I was going to be either in constant motion or inside a truck, I would probably wear lighter clothes. I know they weren't that heavy, maybe for a Texan? I am from Vermont where winters are very cold, so 63 F would be nothing to me. I'd be okay wearing a T-shirt and capris (I've done so) in such weather, I know most people are not necessarily that way, but still. I feel like she was wearing clothes comfortable for that location but that is just MOO. I could be completely wrong. I heard TX winters can get up to 70 and it would be torture wearing a sweater and jeans, that's what makes me think she was from someplace colder.

Hi, I'm new here. I'm on websleuths due to a personal connection with a different case in Texas. Just this week I started reading about WCJD and made it through all 66 pages on the thread. I had begun to make some assumptions when I read the most recent article from the local abc news station that said something no other post (as I can recall) has said..."On Saturday, November 1, 1980, at 9:20am, a Walker County Sheriff's Office Deputy responded to a call of a body located on the shoulder of IH-45 north of Huntsville, one half mile south of the FM 1696 exit. The body had been reported by a passing trucker."
I find the 9:20 am time very important for a number of reasons.
-I had assumed she had been abducted while she walked this relatively short distance, murdered and dumped within the night.
-If her LKA was 6:30 the night before, this is a 15 hour gap until she was spotted. That is much longer than I had imagined, and a really long time for a trucker.
-I live about 1 hour from the Ellis Unit. At this time of the year it gets dark around 5:30 and the sun comes up around 6:30 (I checked the daylight saving schedule and this is accurate for 1980 as well)
-It took 3 hours of sunlight for someone to notice her body on the shoulder of a very busy interstate? (this is the ONLY route between Houston and Dallas)
-In three hours of daylight, it is really unlikely that she would have been spared by the vultures and her PM photos show no signs of wildlife "contamination". IDK what it's like in other areas, but here the vultures are very abundant and quick to action. (I'm so sorry I'm writing this and I really hope no one gets disturbed/offended. I can't help but note it).

To me, it seems that she could not have been dumped any time before around 7 am (probably more like 9). If so, she would have been seen by humans or vultures much earlier than 9:20.
I feel like this means that she was either abducted by a local, killed during the night and then dumped to make it look like a hitchhiker attack, or abducted by a trucker who sat with her in his truck all night and into the morning hours. It's most likely that trucker would have been parked there at the Hitchin Post during that time.

Thanks for listening. It's interesting - with fresh eyes, I really didn't think the theory that the trucker who reported her might be the perpetrator. With this last bit of time info (if correct), I think LE should hunt the guy down and re-interview him as the main suspect.

Good theory not sure of the actual time of report. But I suspect there could be a connection to a trucker too, maybe even the one who reported her. Or any trucker for that matter. Earlier reports I had read said she had died 6 hours prior to discovery of body. And it was at dawn if I recall correctly. Carl or someone longtime familiar with the case should be able to tell you.

On the abc news link, it said she had an inverted right nipple? Anyone else catch that? I've never seen that noted before?

I'm going to email Cody back from the Huntsville item and make sure he takes note of the scar because the first two articles did not :(

I've lived in the San Antonio area for over half my life and yes at 63F everyone treats that as pretty cold. It is not uncommon to see people wearing sweatshirts or long sleeve sweaters in that weather. We don't get very cold winters so we take what "cold" weather we can get! Also this time of year it's pretty chilly in the morning and by the afternoon, it's hot. I'd imagine she had on a lighter shirt underneath the pullover yellow sweater for when it got hot.

I've also asked if any DNA testing was done on the sandals but haven't gotten a concrete answer. All I know is they are keeping the sandals quiet so if one day they get a confession, it will help. Notice we don't have a picture of the sandals themselves yet they are still in evidence.

I'm so happy NCMEC has made a new recon of her. Hopefully, someone will see it and recognize her.

Wondering if obituaries in port Aransas area were checked to see if maybe a woman passed who had a daughter around this age. Maybe they lived on outskirts of town & she was homeschooled -just odd nobody stepped up knowing her from school or neighborhood. Perhaps she was looking for bio dad who was in the prison and mom may not have ever told dad she was pregnant which would be why she wasn't recognized. As for the driver that dropped her off- she may have been hit hiking & he may have been from our of state never seeing the case which could explain why he never came forward. I just heard of this case today so it's possible

That was my thought as well. Someone probably Lucas overheard her asking for directions and or just followed& picked her up

michelle Garvey had an inverted nipple if I'm correct. Are you thinking of her?

  • #993
I saw on an article about the inverted nipple as well. I don't remember which article though

I'm in Oklahoma and our weather is similar except it being a bit warmer during the winter and 63 is sweater or jacket for me but not for all- she was pretty small I saw somewhere just over 5 feet and between 100-108 lbs so she probably got cold easily being so little

How far off the road was she? Right on side or off a few feet? Were there tall weeds that would obstruct a regular sized car/trucks view?

Wonder123, welcome to Websleuths!!!
I'm glad your hear, I like the way you think and you bring great insight to this case.

Good question. The abc report says she was on the shoulder of the highway. I took that to mean right at the road, but maybe that's not correct. This stretch of the highway is still undeveloped and surrounded by piney woods.

I am wondering where they got that piece of information from (about the inverted nipple). I hope it wasn't a mix up because there was no mention of the scar on her eyebrow.
