Apparently there was an extra witness at Hitch'in', not just the waitress. Bobby Roach, the waitress, and the other witness are all deceased.

This is the photo Mia G posted of the culvert (along with a couple of other photos from different angles. It is on page 13 of this thread.)

It's a different area than what I first thought was the spot on googlemaps, but I still agree that it would be easy to pass unless you were actively looking.

I did a quick search. It looks like another young girl was dumped on I45 on Dec 10, 1980 - this was farther south, but north of Houston. There's not really a description of what happened other than "homicide".

You will have to scroll down to the 11/1/80 entry to see the picture which is in color, contrary to the other 2 I have seen. It appears the information is from the Harris County ME office. Note, the document filed on the page says she was found 4.5 miles north of Huntsville. That correlates to the 1696 exit and not the culvert a mile from the hitching post. I really don't feel like the latter location and description should be given much weight any more.

I am glad to read that the sandals have been sent for DNA testing. The killer most definitely handled the shoes and if he was sweating even a little, his DNA would be on the straps. That makes me hopeful.

I am glad to read that the sandals have been sent for DNA testing. The killer most definitely handled the shoes and if he was sweating even a little, his DNA would be on the straps. That makes me hopeful.

I didn't even know for sure if they kept the sandals. I am delighted that they are DNA testing them. She needs justice!

I so wish they mentioned the scar. It was very nicely written, but, like all the other articles, didn't mention the scar. Frustrating.

A million times YES. How would someone just driving notice a body in that small culvert? They most likely wouldn't. Of course I am not directly implicating Rhoades...but it's definitely worth looking into IMO.

It's possible Rhoades had to pull over or something for a moment and saw it. IMHO, seems like a really crazy move to be the one to call police if you were the murderer and the victim wasn't family or anything... Are there any well known cases where a stranger called in a discovery of remains and turned out to be the murderer?

IMHO, seems like a really crazy move to be the one to call police if you were the murderer and the victim wasn't family or anything... He definitely could have pulled over for a moment--it's all just speculation of course. Since he was a trucker, maybe if he thought he did call in about the discovery, it would seemingly free him of suspicion, and he could leave the state the next day.

True. I edited my post moments after because I just found an example at the top of the resolved cases subforum where a stranger went way out of his way to not only call in remains but frame another suspect... http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2015/11/06/Cold-case-murder-closed.html. just horrible.

Truckers sit up way high from the road. You can see all kinds of stuff that you can't see from a car. Over guardrails, into car windows, over privacy fences. I rode with my uncle once and it was really crazy how different the roads looked.

So I can totally believe he could see down into that little gully where the culvert is, if that's really where she was.

If you click on the more information button it doesnt say anything about a scar. 😕

No, the scar is visible on the PM if you look closely.

Since she had such good dentition, and was at a healthy weight, and was clean, I don't think she had been missing very long at all. The scar is healed and it could be ten years old. I don't think she could have obtained a scar so quickly after the attack.

I have a scar on my eyebrow too, though it isn't at the end of my eyebrow, it's at the start of it. I got it when I was ~1 and learning to walk, so it's been there ~14 years. I think the hair follicles were damaged/something like that (I am not a scientist LOL) and that is why there is no hair growing on it. If it was something that she got while being attacked shortly before her death (hours before) I would think hair would still be on it.
