I agree kathy and kitty don't look very alike I'm just surprised kathy and wcjd had very similar stories. Kitty did mention she had a sister back home where she was being abused as well, maybe kathy...

Great work, thanks!

I pulled up Kitty's picture beside our girl's post-mortem and the features line up rather well, especially the small chin and delicate nose. Not sure they're an exact match though.

I can't make out the necklace, except that it doesn't seem to be rectangular to me.

To me, the necklace looks like the other half of the rectangle is tucked in her shirt, maybe.

I had a lot more success with the other microfilm reader upstairs. I knew we had a fancy new one but I wasn't expecting it to be so nice! Anyway, here is a high quality cropped image from the article. I scaled it down because the original image was enormous, but it is still rather large. (Unfortunately it looks like the size and dimensions have been reduced after uploading the attachment.. I'm not sure how to fix this. I have the 1200x1475 original if anyone needs it larger.) I'm still on the clock and don't have any fancy photo editing software on my computer, so... I'll let someone else mess around with the image levels to see if it will help bring some more details out.

For what it's worth, I'm not really convinced 'Kitty' is Kathy. From my untrained eye the noses appear quite a bit different and this girl/woman strikes me as someone older than Kathy appears in the photo on Facebook. The article mentions she ran away at age 13 but doesn't touch on how old Kitty was at the time of writing. For all we know, she could have stayed at the shelter many years prior. Just my opinion. The documentary would obviously help clear this up, but as Kimm11 mentioned, the Muhlenberg College Library appears to be the only library in the country that holds the tape in their collection. At the very least, they're the only library that has the tape cataloged and shared with OCLC Worldcat.

Concerning the possibility of being able to view the Runaway documentary - I handle the interlibrary loans here and I'm currently looking at the Muhlenberg College Library's lending policies through the back end of OCLC. They list "Children's Collection, AV material, Special & Rare collection, New York Times Best seller collection, DVD, CD" as items that do NOT circulate (i.e., they will not loan these materials to another library). Unless someone lives near Allentown, PA and can ask to view the tape within the library, I think this might be a dead end.

Wow! This image came out way better than the one that I got. You all are awesome over at Rosenberg! I had some help with the reader and the girl that helped me was so sweet, I was a little worried at first as she couldn't find the slides for Galveston Daily News for May 1980 - luckily she knew how important finding that picture was and found the slides in a mislabeled box!

I do not believe the girl from the motel is WCJD, but kitty is a totally different story; i am incredibly interested in this potential match. The article was published in May, but I came across another article from February 1980 explaining how certain people from the county were being interviewed for the documentary.

I also informed the case manager of the documentary in the PA library, that may be something she may be able to get ahold of by mail considering who she is and the impact it could have on this case. She is also working on getting in touch with the youth home to see if they have any info on Kitty.

Photo pointing out what I believe is a rectangular pendant.

This close up cuts off what I believe is the pendant, it's dark and almost looks like part of her shirt. Each reconstruction depicts what looks like a fairly short chain 14-16" while the photo of kitty looks like the chain could be 20-24" as it hangs much lower.

That's actually a good question for WCJD's LE; if they know the length of the chain. Will give it to SSA (Still Seek Answers) for the next time she speaks to him.

They have the chain length but will not disclose it because it is confidential for prosecution.

I sent the galveston news paper a mesaage thru FB asking them if they happen to have a clearer picture of kitty they said they don't have the original, they got it from abc13. I already sent them an email so hopefully they respond

So, I found another article that basically confirms that Kitty and Kathy are not the same. The Boston Globe did a write-up on the Runaway documentary on June 2, 1980. Kitty is 17. There was a follow-up to the original documentary a year later in 1981 but newspaper mentions of it don't go over what runaways were profiled. With this information, I don't think Kitty and Kathy are the same person, but I think Kitty is still a good candidate for WCJD.

It says she went to jr high school. Does anybody remember the girl on FB that said she remembers hanging out with a girl who I believe lived in front of her house but she only saw her in jr high, that the girl stayed with her a couple of times but then never saw her she said she came from an abusive home.

I think it's back in the thread somewhere. I'll look when I'm on the laptop. Too hard to do from the phone.

Apologies if this has been suggested already.

http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/t/taylor_patricia.html this case was added to Charley Project yesterday, and I believe Taylor sorta resembles WCJD. The dates are kinda cutting it close, but the age, height, and weight seem to match up. Kinda sad how she seemed to get pushed from place to place, and her siblings are desperately looking for her.

Celina was last seen walking north on Shoemaker Ave from Foster Road, which is away from the high school. That appears to be in Norwalk CA. https://goo.gl/maps/DxHzJ25C4Az

The map shows another high school in the next block but I don't know whether it was there in 1976.

I was looking into the mention of Ellis Prison and wondered if anyone has ever examined a possible connection to James David Autry?

Autry was sentenced to death for shooting and killing a convenience store clerk in Port Arthur, TX on April 20, 1980. He was moved to Ellis Prison on October 10, 1980 and executed on March 14, 1984.

I was hoping to read back about coverage of the trial but unfortunately, Port Arthur News is digitized for every year between 1921 and the present, except 1980.

The more I look into this case, and read about true crime etc, the more I think the person who killed this girl has certainly killed before and MAY have a military connection, because of the panties stuffed inside of her to stop bleeding. Bludgeoning & strangulation is the most common method used by serial murderers. The confiscation of the clothing. Though I still don't know why the jewellery was left on her.

I was actually thinking that Autry was who WCJD was going to visit. Autry came from a "broken" home and Port Arthur, where he lived, is just an hour from Galveston.
