Former 'King of the Hill' voice actor Jonathan Joss shot dead in San Antonio

San Antonio police said Joss was found fatally shot at a home on the city's south side. A suspect was caught a block away, according to officials.

59-year-old Jonathan Joss - legally known as Jonathan Joss Gonzales, was killed in the shooting, police and neighbors said. Joss appeared as John Redcorn in the animated series.

Authorities are backpedaling on their initial statement regarding Jonathan Joss’ murder.


During a press conference on Thursday, June 5, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus offered an update on the case and responded to public backlash after the department said that their “investigation has found no evidence whatsoever” that Joss’ June 1 shooting death was a hate crime.


“That was way, way, way premature,” he admitted. “Shouldn’t have done it. It was way too soon before we had any real information, and I will own that and simply say, again, that we shouldn't have done that. It was way too early in the process for any statement of that nature to be issued.”

San Antonio police said Alvarez and Joss were in the middle of an argument when Alvarez brought out a gun and shot Joss several times. Alvarez then fled the scene by car but was arrested by police about a block away. Officers found Joss lying in the roadway. They attempted life-saving measures until EMS arrived, but he was later pronounced dead.
Alvarez was taken to police headquarters for further investigation, and was booked on a murder charge. A judge set his bail at $200,000. He has since been released after posting bond.
