Circumstances of Discovery
A member of the Harris Creek Baptist Church congregation located the skeletal remains of the man while surveying the parking lot area that adjoined the church. The decedent was lying near a fence line that divided the property, situated approximately 30 feet east of Highway 84 on land owned by the Texas Department of Highways and Public Transportation.
The remains were sent to the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas, where an autopsy and further testing was conducted. Medical examiners were able to determine that the man likely would have walked with a pronounced limp due to a crippled left leg, and that he had previously sustained fractures to his ribs and his nose. The cause of the death for the man was unable to be determined, but it was noted that it was unlikely to be foul play.
Subsequent investigations by the McLennan County Sheriff's Department indicated that the man may have been a transient due to the way he was dressed. However, despite issuing a statewide bulletin and comparing the man with missing persons reports on file, authorities have not yet been able to identify him.
