In tonight's Dateline episode we also learned that KA had asked her buddy Teal to drive her to San Jose (for her surgical appt). Teal turned her down, due to how long of a trip it is. She then confided that she was afraid of being stopped by the authorities as there was some kind of issue with her papers/documents.

I missed the show, so thank you for all the info and tidbits.

Did the show touch on any of the documents found in her locker? The surgical receipt? What about the credit cards she took that were issued to Wheelhouse and one issued in Colin’s name? What about the sister’s passport?

Seems like if she is trying to use the defense that she fled the country because she was scared Colin was a killer, why did she have his credit cards and was she planning to use them at some point? If I was scared someone was going to kill me, the last thing I’d do was steal credit cards issued in their name and go on the run with them.

NBC’s Dateline to air special on Kaitlin Armstrong, Moriah Wilson case Friday at 8 pm

Rick Cofer says his client will be found “not guilty”

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Anna Moriah “Mo” Wilson’s name has been in a heartbreaking spotlight since she was shot and killed in May. She was a pro cyclist, rising in fame within the cycling world. One of television’s most popular shows, Dateline NBC, will focus its 31st season premiere on her death.

It’s a two-hour special from NBC correspondent Keith Morrison entitled “The Last Ride.” The special will feature exclusive interviews with insiders in the case, including the defense attorney for Kaitlin Armstrong, who is accused of shooting and killing Wilson.

During the interview, attorney Rick Cofer tells Morrison the case against Armstrong is “predicated on a deeply misogynistic view of her,” and if the case goes to trial, “she will be found not guilty.”

Interesting. If the societal view of KA as a murderer is misogynistic, can we also say that KA was misogynistic towards MW, a talented, successful and much-admired woman?

Following her interrogation, she sure didn’t mind going for coffee with this ‘killer’.

For those that missed it, here is a link to the episode. I had to turn off content blockers and link my TV provider.

So, according to Cofer on Dateline tonight, KA sold her car and fled, not because she had done anything, but bc she feared that CS may be a murderer. Oooooookay.

I have to say, he certainly exudes an air of confidence, and talks a good game, but I'm not sure that he even really believes that he is gonna be able to get a jury to buy what he is gonna try to sell in this case. I thought Keith Morrison was about to laugh at him once.

ETA....Every time I see Cofer, he looks like the spitting image of Christopher Reeve, dressed as Clark Kent, in the Superman movie. I kept waiting for him to duck out of the interview, and come back in with tights and a cape. He may need to be Superman to get KA acquitted. JMO
LOL, thanks for bringing up that Clark Kent/Superman resemblance.

I always found it strange that Cofer always wore his blue suit with red tie and white shirt…so is he trying to give that Superman feel…Cofer to the rescue? Strange if that’s the case, although I do find him a bit arrogant. jmo

IMO, Teal is the Kato Kaelin (OJ Simpson.) character in this Armstrong case. The similarities are striking.

They showed the surgery receipt with the name Alisson Paige, and they talked to Zachary Paulsen who found the documents in the locker. ZP said he found more documents in KA‘s locker than he had of his own. I don’t recall specific mention of the credit cards.

The documents can be seen at 1:55 in this video. Keith Morrison shares details of 'Dateline' season premiere

RICK COFER: The crux of law enforcement’s theory from within the first 24 hours of this case, they had decided that Kaitlin Armstrong is a crazy, jealous person who, in a fit of rage, murdered Miss Wilson. The whole case against Kait Armstrong is predicated on a deeply misogynistic view of her.

KEITH MORRISON VOICE OVER: BUT THERE IS THAT KEY PIECE OF EVIDENCE THE ONE THAT LED INVESTIGATORS TO KAITLIN IN THE FIRST PLACE. VIDEO OF HER JEEP AT THE CRIME SCENE AT THE TIME OF THE MURDER.

RICK COFER: So this dark-colored SUV, that’s where the detective really wants to start to hang this horrible crime on Kaitlin Armstrong. There’s no evidence presented ever of a license plate on this vehicle, of any description of an occupant of the vehicle.

KEITH MORRISON VOICE OVER: COFER SAID THAT CAN’T BE KAITLIN IN THE JEEP FOR ONE SIMPLE REASON.

RICK COFER: You can’t be in two places at once. That’s just kind of some simple math.

KEITH MORRISON: Okay. So you’re saying that she wasn’t in the vicinity of the murder when the murder occurred and you can prove it.

RICK COFER: I don’t have to prove that. That’s not how the system works.

KEITH MORRISON: You just said the simple math was in error, so that maybe they –

RICK COFER: Lemme put it this way.

KEITH MORRISON: – it implies that you have proof.

RICK COFER: I expect this, the government’s own evidence will acquit Kaitlin Armstrong. They just haven’t looked at it. Kaitlin Armstrong is not guilty. And if this case goes to trial, if the district attorney doesn’t dismiss it before trial, she will be found not guilty.

It is about reasonable doubt.

I think what is being missed here is that KA was a liar before the murder, and after.

Her “Botox stealing” just says, a liar.

Her leaving the country on another person’s passport is lying. (Besides being a federal crime).

From just these two episodes, could anyone trust her now?

Also - the whole story suddenly became about glamorizing KA. It is not going to help justice. Her lawyer is already presenting her as the victim of misogyny. This has to be stopped. KA is not a victim here. MW is the victim.

And that victim had a lot to live for, and to achieve. Dateline, sorry, owes MW now. I understand how hard it must be for MW’s parents, but I think there should be a film made about MW, and soon. The Internet is very harsh on her. To me, it looks like a collateral figure in someone’s dysfunctional relationship got killed, and buried in silence. The murderer steals the attention, with her Costa Rica, her plastic surgery, her expat… i don’t see the similarity between KA and OJ, but KA reminds me of Tonya Harding.

t has been reported that KA traveled overseas for a few trips…but did she live abroad for years as Cofer said? He also said she contacted a lawyer to see if she could leave before she left…who was it? IMO lots of spin…

Defense attorney expects 'the government's own evidence will acquit Kaitlin Armstrong...she will be found not guilty' in Moriah Wilson murder case

Cofer claims that before leaving Austin, Armstrong had consulted a lawyer to ask if she'd be in any legal trouble if she left. The arrest warrant for Armstrong had not yet been issued and so, according to Cofer, the lawyer encouraged Armstrong to be with family and to not talk with Strickland, who at the time was a potential suspect for murder.

Even at the time of her flight to Costa Rica, there was "no live, active warrant for her arrest," Cofer points out.

"All told, she's lived years of her life abroad. It makes perfect sense that when her life is turned upside down, destroyed and in a state of shock, she goes to Costa Rica to do yoga stuff."

Yes, it makes perfect sense, obviously. /s. Really?!

Laughable that she had a platinum Amex but reportedly couldn’t afford to pay for her Botox.

Doesn't he need to provide a rock solid alibi for her, then? Just saying, "That can't be her jeep" doesn't mean it may not be. So where was she?

Um right, using someone else's passport!

Ha! I made this very comment a thread or two back, when we first learned of him. I cannot imagine this trial playing out without him as a witness, though I do not see how he could be compelled to be a part of it. What is the likelihood that he would come here to testify? I assume his expenses would be paid if he was asked to testify, but I am not sure that he isn't over there, instead of over here, for reasons other than just love of the lifestyle. I loved that he noted that Costa Rica is a good place to hide out, and a place for the wanted, and the unwanted. I do think he would be the media star sideshow of the trial, if he were to appear. Every word out of the guy's mouth is a sound byte. JMO

From Cofer, <modsnip - namecalling not allowed>:

Evidence such as the ballistic report that ties Armstrong's gun to the killing. The report concludes that the potential for a match was 'significant,' but not concrete.

"Ballistic analysis is functionally a junk science. It is a type of witchcraft if you will," Cofer says.

[..]

As for the appearance changes, Cofer says there's no evidence to indicate that Armstrong had any plastic surgery.

I’m unable to bold the fourth paragraph above but… isn’t that an out and out lie? By the time she flew to Costa Rica, there was indeed a warrant out for her arrest, right? The day before she flew out of Newark. Just found several links to confirm, inc the one below. Her attorney would lie about this??
