WATCH LIVE: Scorned Lover Murder Trial — TX v. Kaitlin Armstrong — Sentencing

Kaitlin Armstrong is accused of killing her ex-boyfriend’s former lover, Anna Moriah "Mo" Wilson, then fleeing to Costa Rica. That’s where she tried to make a new life for herself — allegedly dying her hair, cutting it short, and spending $6,000 in plastic surgery. Armstrong was charged with first-degree murder.

Not that it ultimately matters, as the jurors will decide her sentence, but I am curious how the prosecution came to put 40 years as a suggested starting point for deliberations. Do you think the state asked her family what they thought would be a fair sentence, though we all know that no sentence will ever bring their beloved daughter back. Maybe 40 years was their suggestion, knowing that she would have to serve at least 20, but could possibly get out and still have time to live her life. I am not sure I could be that magnanimous, but who knows? JMO

I wondered the same. What an awful position to be in (as a juror). I honestly don't know what I'd want for her. Mo doesn't have a life. Mo doesn't have any more chances. Should KA have any?

I don't think either the flight from prosecution to Costa Rica, with all it's fraud charges, nor the attempted escape while on the medical visit were presented to the jury by the prosecution.

So its curious the prosecution cannot use her significant history of escape attempts to further the sentence, or remove the possibility of parole.

If I were her parent, I would want the jury to know how devious and self-centered this woman was and how much of a problem she will be in prison with her attempted escape history.

Given all the evidence against KA and KA turning down DA Garza's plea agreement is why I believe that KA had been denying to her family that she was involved here. I believe the Armstrong family saw the big picture for the first time during the past two weeks. IMO, I think KA assumed the Sister Superior role, manipulating her entire family, all of her life. (Parents were divorced ever since KA about age 5).

DA Garza is famous for offering headline grabbing sentences such as 55 year sentence but buried in the article you learn the defendant is eligible for parole after serving 25-30 years of that sentence.

IMO, the Texas plea agreements are made attractive because most Judge/Jury sentencing verdicts do not include parole eligibility. JMO

I would love if she got at least 60 years, so that she would not be eligible for parole for 30 years. Maybe by the time she's in her mid-60s she'd be ready to acknowledge what she did and apologize to those she's hurt.

<snipped for focus>

If KA is a problem during her prison sentence and/or tries to escape, then the parole board will use that information when she comes up for parole.

I'm wondering if 40 years was the original plea deal sentencing and the DA insisted that the 40 years be the starting point given the DA's liberal soft-on-crime policies.

Another poster first pointed this out to me, but after considerable searching, I have only ever seen the report of this supposed plea deal offer on The Daily Mail. No other media outlet or newspaper has ever mentioned it, other than by referencing them as the source. It makes me wonder if perhaps something was misreported, though I have been assuming it was true.

I think both were brought up by the DA during opening statements. Here's a tweet referencing the escape attempt when he was tweeting all of the opening statements:

I thought a reporter asked and found out that a plea deal was never offered to KA.

Yes. Even that Crimeonline article referenced the source for the plea deal as the Daily Mail.

On day 6, we heard from the U.S. Marshal regarding the search and capture of her in Costa Rica.
Trial day 6: Witness testimony shows Kaitlin Armstrong's car near area where Mo Wilson was killed

This past Tuesday, we heard about her escape from the medical office from one of the officers who was transporting her that day.

This Exhibit below is believed to be KA's guilty plea agreement for the theft of service (Botox) signed on 10/30/23. I don't think she's appeared in Court to enter change of plea yet per the docket.

KA has a Court date for the escape charge in December.

I agree! Also known as a brow lift. Look at the difference in her eye lids. You can see much more of them in the after pic because the hooded part of her eye was lifted.

The stitches would be in the crease of the eyelid? Or at the forehead?

I think the Daily Fail got it wrong. Yesterday a reporter asked a reliable source about this and was told KA was never offered a plea deal.
