Newspaper articles from 1984 and 1985 suggest that authorities have determined Neil was murdered and are now searching for his remains. I found his date of birth and a photo. He was married from 1954-1974 in Travis County, Texas and was in the Marine Corp during the 1950's. I mapped out his intended route, from Sugarland to Pflugerville, with a mark indicating where his truck was located.

"Hunt for owner of pickup fails near Smithville"
SMITHVILLE-- Despite an extensive ground and air search Monday, investigators failed to find a Houston businessman whose blood-stained pickup was discovered Saturday on Texas 71 north of Smithville.

Texas Ranger Ron Steward said ownership of the 1983 Ford pickup has been traced to Neil McFadden Adams, who is about 51 years old.

Steward said Adams was known to travel frequently late at night.

"We have information that he was headed from Houston to Austin last weekend, but we still don't know what happened to him," Stewart said.

Stewart said the windows of the pickup "appeared to have been shot out or knocked out." He said blood was on the seat.

A Laboratory team from the Texas Department of Public Safety took samples of the blood-soaked fabric for testing, Stewart said, "and every inch of that truck has been gone over."

The pickup was reported to the Bastrop County sheriff's office Saturday afternoon, Deputy David Lewis said.

Stewart said searchers have concentrated the search along the Colorado River near Smithville.

"We've been out there for three days, and we haven't found anything yet, but we're going to keep searching because there's a lot of ground to cover out there," he said Monday.

"Tips wanted in search for Sugarland resident"

Bastrop County authorities are continuing their search for Neil McFadden Adams of Sugarland, whose blood-splattered truck was found by a Smithville rancher more than six months ago.

A $3.000 reward is being offered by the Bastrop County Crimestoppers and Adams' family for information leading to the recovery of his body. Another $3,000 is being offered for the information leading to the arrest and indictment of whoever is responsible for his disappearance.

Adams, a self-employed businessman who supplied paper to abstract companies in the Houston-Sugarland area, has been missing since Dec. 7, 1984, when he was driving to Pflugerville to meet his son for a hunting trip, said David Lewis, and investigator with the Bastrop County district attorney's office.

Lewis said a rancher found Adams' pickup about 3 p.m. Dec. 8, and called Smithville police to report what he thought was a possible stolen or abandoned vehicle.

The truck, which was under the Colorado River bridge on U.S. 71, had been driven or pushed into the brush, Lewis said. He said the truck windows had been shattered and large amounts of blood matching Adams' blood type were found on the seat and floor.

Smithville Police Chief Kevin Madison said a partial cartridge found in the pickup came from a firearm smaller than .38 caliber.
