"Daniel Barry Steffen, 69, has been in custody since Aug. 31. On Thursday, Plano police issued new warrants charging him with criminal solicitation of capital murder and criminal attempt to improperly contact a victim. His bail is now set at $2.34 million."

"Indictments earlier this month allege that Steffen sexually assaulted the boy, created child porn videos of the teen and possessed photos of other naked boys. Records show the sexual assaults began in February 2016, when the boy was 14."

A Plano man said he hoped to get probation Thursday after pleading guilty to committing sex crimes involving an underage boy and plotting to kill a prosecutor.

But state District Judge Angela Tucker told Daniel B. Steffen, 70, he would find no mercy after a full-day hearing involving evidence that prosecutors described as "horrendous."

"You are a predator of the worst kind," Tucker said before sentencing Steffen to life in prison.
