This was abnormally short for an NFL investigation. Especially for a repeat offender like Rice. Interesting.

Another strange thing is his attorney’s statement after his ex filed the lawsuit.

“On October 9th, 2025, well after the parties' relationship had ended, Ms. Jones stated under penalty of perjury in a sworn Affidavit for Non-Prosecution that 'Mr. Rice and I had a verbal argument, but he did not punch me.' We will allow the legal process to run its course."

I had to Google to make sure because it’s such an odd thing but you don’t need a police report or official charges to create an affidavit for non-prosecution; it’s just legally pointless without one.

I would guess she was threatening to go public with allegations of abuse in October and Rice paid her off/gave her something she wanted but only if she signed the affidavit.

I would still expect the NFL to investigate thoroughly in spite of the affidavit though. So the quick turnaround is still interesting.
