So very sad and SENSELESS!!!!

Stilettos--That doesn't surprise me at all as my Dad often helped count offerings at his Central Texas Baptist church and it often ran into the $1000s. I noticed that Pastor Dobson and Ms. Elliott were attacked on a Thursday afternoon. My guess is that the killers knew that most Baptist churches have Wednesday night prayer service (or they observed it, somehow). My guess is that those are the funds stolen. But if they had already been deposited, that might explain why personal credit cards were taken.

Senseless, totally senseless.

From October 2012:

While prosecutors said they didn’t know how Nelson got into the NorthPointe Church, they know that he struck Pastor Dobson in the head so hard it disabled him. Prosecutors then detailed how Nelson allegedly bound Dobson with a computer extension cord, and then suffocated him with a trashcan liner...

“I saw a woman that looked like had been beaten, lying there,” he said. “She responded to me by saying, ‘I don’t know who’s there, but can you please help me?’ I didn’t recognize her voice.” It wasn’t until after police arrived and attempted to help the victim’s that John Elliott realized the situation. “The officer went over and roused her. I noticed the clothing and then I said, “Oh my God. That’s my wife”...

Initially another person, Anthony Gregory Springs, was also charged in the murder and attack, but the charges against him were later dropped.

New details of Steven Lawayne Nelson's past — offenses that led up to what prosecutors called his most heinous crime — were revealed during a week-long hearing to decide Nelson's fate following his conviction last week of killing Dobson. On Tuesday, jurors chose the death penalty.

"It is hard for me to fathom that you did what you did for a car and a laptop and a phone," Dobson's father-in-law, Phillip Rozeman, said in a statement after the sentencing. "The world is going to miss a leader. It's sad to know all the people that won't be helped because Clint is not here."

Nelson, 37, is scheduled to receive a lethal injection Wednesday evening at the state penitentiary in Huntsville. Nelson would be the first Texas death row inmate executed since Robert Roberson's Oct. 17, 2024, execution date was delayed in what would have been the first in the U.S. tied to a diagnosis of shaken baby syndrome, and the first of four scheduled in Texas over the next three months.
