LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas — The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a missing elderly man with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson's disease.

Riley Clarence Whitley was last seen around 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2022, according to the missing person report filed by his wife Denise Whitley.

Riley Whitley told his wife he was going to the river to read his Bible, according to the report. He left their home in Cleveland, Texas driving a 2007 Toyota van with Texas license plate number NLW8339.

A Liberty County Dispatcher did contact Whitley’s cell phone provider and was able to get a ping on his phone with the last available ping being April 24, 2022 at 7:30 PM, near Minute Maid Park in Downtown Houston.

Riley Clarence Whitley is a Veteran and is on foot without his much-needed medication. If found or observed please contact the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office at 936-336-4500 refer to case number 22-001124

I think if he had harmed himsef they would have found him within walking distance of the van. The article GuyfromCanada posted is worth the read. Seems there was a bit of "pass the buck" from the original responding officer. MOO

I hope he's safe. It's been 4 days already. Where would he go, any places he likes to visit except the river?

It rained like crazy yesterday afternoon in NE Houston, was cool enough to have windows open. When I checked weather it was worse to the north which would include Cleveland. I don’t have a good feeling unless he’s holed up somewhere.

My DH has Alzheimer's. The very FIRST thing I did when he started to become confused at times was install a tracker on his car and I put a "tile" in his pocket.

I do not understand why people with dementia do not have more ways to find them when lost.....Hope he is found soon.

BTW-I doubt his mind would be able to comprehend self harm........it just isn't there for them. So sad.
