Man could spend life behind bars after FBI, HPD say he targeted trans people on dating app then assaulted them
The FBI and Houston police are working together to find more victims in targeted attacks against transgender people.

Texas Man Charged With Attacking Trans Woman; FBI Seeks Other Victims
Salih Alhemoud, 28, of Houston, is accused of assaulting a trans woman he met on Grindr, whom he called a "demon," and authorities say he's a suspect in other, similar crimes.

- Salih Alhemoud, 28, is charged with committing a hate crime, kidnapping and possessing a firearm during a crime of violence. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, the assault is believed to have been motivated by gender identity and sexual orientation.
- ...would allegedly set up fake dates through the Grindr dating app, and then assault the unsuspecting victims in their homes.
- Alhemoud is still jailed in advance of further court proceedings because a hearing determined he is a danger to the community. If he is convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
- Records show that authorities are also looking into a series of other similar incidents they believe Alhemoud may have committed over the summer. In one of the incidents, Alhemoud is charged with committing a hate crime, kidnapping, and possessing a firearm during a crime of violence.
