Newly released search warrant affidavits in the investigation into the homicide of Tom Niblo, an Abilene real estate agent, reveal a sprawling evidence chain but no arrests.

Niblo was fatally shot multiple times Dec. 12 in his home in the 3700 block of Woodridge Drive.

Nilblo and his wife, Cheryl Niblo, were in their bed the morning of the shooting when she got up and went into the bathroom...

Cheryl Niblo reportedly heard several shots fired and ran out the back door to a neighbor's house to call the police, the search warrant states.

Police have been investigating Niblo's brother-in-law Luke Sweetser, 45, as a suspect in the murder because they were involved in a family dispute over the execution of Niblo's late father's will. Sweetser was upset because his wife and Niblo's sister, Ellousie Niblo Sweetser, had been excluded as an executor of the will...

No arrests have been made in connection to Niblo's murder. Police told KTAB and KRBC Sweetser is not the only suspect in Niblo's murder.

Detectives also requested phone records from a man who was previously in a relationship with one of Niblo's daughters because he was upset about the relationship ending and was in contact with Niblo days before the murder.

Arrest made in 2016 murder of Abilene real estate agent Thomas Niblo

Jailhouse Interview: Brother-in-law says he was framed for Abilene realtor’s murder | KTAB - BigCountryHomepage.com

This is going to be a very interesting trial, when the time comes. Big money, plenty of rumors, colorful personalities and inflated egos will be on display. I’m not talking about anyone in particular.
FBI spent a lot of time analyzing electronic evidence. Luke Sweetster’s arrest was delayed for years because law-enforcement was making sure that they had a very solid case before arresting him.
MOO

Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday in the trial of the man accused of entering Abilene Realtor Thomas Niblo's home and fatally shooting him eight times Dec. 12, 2016.

Niblo's brother-in-law, Luke Sweetser, has been in Taylor County Jail since his arrest Sept. 17, 2020 on a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the killing. His bond was set at $750,000.

"During the voir dire process, many of the 125 potential jurors revealed they had personal or professional connections to some of the witnesses, officers, and other people giving testimony in the trial, many of whom are well known citizens in Abilene.

However, only a few potential jurors admitted to having prior knowledge about the Niblo murder investigation.

The trial is set to begin with opening statements Tuesday morning."

From above link:
"Tom's father, Sydney "Syd" Niblo, had died six months earlier, and his son was executor of the will and manager of the family partnership, Cheryl testified.

Tom's sister, Ellouise, who was married to Sweetser, wanted to be a co-manager, which would have allowed her access to the partnership's bank accounts, Cheryl Niblo said.

Tom was stressed about the situation and the sister's demand to be named a co-manager, Cheryl Niblo said.

"Your daddy made that decision," she told her husband.
The relationship improved after 2013, when he went to a treatment facility for alcohol addiction, in her words "cross-dressing" and 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 addiction that involved looking at pictures of men dressed as women, Cheryl Niblo testified."

This was news to me! Interesting!

Also from the above link: Her husband had given her a large diamond necklace shortly before the shooting as an early Christmas present, she said.

"During her testimony, Cheryl did note that she thought it was strange that none of her three dogs, who were all in the bedroom when Tom was shot and killed, barked or alerted she and her husband to the intruder.

Cheryl said her dogs typically barked at everyone, even people they know. She did recall hearing them whimpering when the gunshots happened, causing her to think they had been hit. However, it was later revealed that all three dogs were unharmed."

IMO things aren't looking too good for the brother-in-law!

I was glad to see they cleared his wife in 2017. Lots of rumors concerning her involvement. I have always heard she is a very sweet lady.

GUILTY!!!

Luke Sweetser has been found guilty in the murder of his brother-in-law, Abilene Realtor Tom Niblo.

A jury returned the verdict against Luke Sweetser Tuesday afternoon, finding him guilty for 1st Degree Murder. The jurors will now listen to testimony in a sentencing hearing before deciding his punishment in this case. This is set to begin Thursday morning.
