I emailed someone at NamUs, if they do allow mtDNA I will inquire about how the auto matchup works with cases with mtDNA, Considering mtDNA isn't 100 percent unique
Thanks, it would be good to clarify this point.

Vidor Jane Doe was discovered 40 years ago today.

I read through and didn't see this one listed. What about Mary Jo Lee Long? 3148DFCA - Mary Jo Lee Long

Disappeared: December 27, 1981 ( I understood that this was an estimate)
Age: 17 Match
Height: 5'5 (JD is said to be 4'6-5'2) Possible?
Hair Color: Brown Match
Missing from: Los Angeles, California to Vidor, Texas = 1,723 miles. (....)

Here's a side by side of them. I thought that they had a few similarities. Especially with the recon that @victoriarobinson642 did.

It's officially New Year's Day here over the pond and 41 years since the discovery of Vidor Jane Doe.

Hey everyone. I have been heavily considering Sheyl Denise Taylor as a potential match for this Jane Doe. The Grimes County Jane Doe has also been heavily considered and police have got DNA for Sheryl to see if they match. I don't think that Doe is her but I do think the Vidor Jane Doe really could be.
OK - OK - Sheryl/Cheryl Denise Taylor, 12, Picher, July 1978 | Page 2 | Websleuths
72UFTX.jpg

Now, the main factor here is that this Jane Doe had shorter hair than Sheryl. There are two possibilities here.
1. She cut he hair if she ran away after her disappearance.
2. Her hair was short when she disappeared.
I think that possibility 2 is the most likely explanation and the one piece of evidence for this is an unconfirmed yearbook photo of Sheryl from 1978 in Picher, the year after this one.
sheryl-taylor-1978-jpg.398876

This photo depicts Sheryl having short hair, like this Jane Doe. This puts the Vidor Jane Doe more likely to be Sheryl than the Grimes County Jane Doe IMO. Height also seems like an issue but I suspect that:
1. Sheryl's height is off.
2. The Doe's height is off.
On Vidor Jane Doe's profile, they say that they know the height is an estimate and may be a few inches off. Also, Sheryl's height seems very off for even a 12 year old. My guess would be that she is closer to 4'5 than 4'.

I feel that timing and location are the only problems here. I know hair color but I have seen hair color change slightly post-mortem in some cases. Here is Sheryl's thread:
@SimsGuy67 did you ever submit this one? looks like an interesting possibility, even with the circumstances noted on Charley Project around Sheryl's possible demise.

I looked and I did submit this all the way back in March 2023. I got nothing more than the usual confirmation response from NamUs.

I used an AI photo enhancer for the reconstruction. I wish there was a better way to know what she looked like. Something tells me that they aren't so accurate because of how she was discovered.
With missing limbs and an estimated 11 months after she passed away it would be difficult to tell how she looked.

Someone mentioned that they wished there were more hairstyles on the recon. Here are a few with the AI enhancer.

Hello All!
There was a recent post about Vidor Jane Doe on another website which eventually lead me to this thread. I had responded to the other post just as @Caring1 had here with data/picture of Vidor JD’s exclusions list. Once I did, I realized that one of the girls listed (Julie Moseley) is one of the three missing Texas girls of the famous Fort Worth Trio.

It made me wonder why they wouldn’t have tested the other two FT Trio girls against Vidor JD? Seeing they all could fit the UIP basic data… Why only Julie Moseley? Perhaps they just figured if it wasn’t one of them, it wouldn’t be any of them? Ugh, that just feels mighty fallible to me.

I went ahead and double checked the other two trio girls’ profiles to make sure— based on the basics, they both could also potentially be Vidor Jane Doe. Weird. I mean, no matter the unlikelihood, it just feels nonsensical not to test them against this JD too… I’m doing some further research now, but what about the other two girls for Vidor Jane? I’ve listed links to their NAMUS profiles below.

That’s strange, I only see the first two sentences from your post until I hit “reply”. Once I click reply, I can see the rest of it which now makes sense.

Here’s where I’d love some of your eyes and thoughts… the descriptions of clothing Lisa Wilson was wearing when she went missing + clothing found with Vidor Jane read potentially… similar? I’m doing further research on both, but wanted to put this out there too.

LISA WILSON of the Fort Worth Trio is listed as wearing the following clothes when she went missing as per NAMUS: “bluish purple hip hugger pants, white pullover sweatshirt with "Sweet Honesty" in green letters” and “red and white Oxford shoes

VIDOR JANE DOE is listed as having the following clothing / items with the body: “a blue-green and white terrycloth Penney Company– or Present Company-brand short-sleeved pullover with an elastic waistband, junior size 9-12, and a green comb were found near her remains.

*PLS NOTE: Besides the similarities in clothing, Lisa Wilson and Vidor Jane Doe also list the following data similarities:
- RACE:
both Caucasian
- AGE:
Lisa is 14yo VS. VJD is 12-20yo
- HEIGHT RANGE:
Lisa is 5’2” VS. VJD is 4’10”-5’2”
- HAIR:
both brown
- AREA:
Lisa went missing in Fort Worth, TX VS. VJD remains found in Vidor, TX = approx. 314miles (4.56hr drive)

What do you guys think? The date missing / remains found + estimated death range are the only major data point that doesn’t match well, but would not necessarily rule each other out. Hmm…

Sorry about that! That was my bad. I don’t know how to interact with WebSleuths very well yet:/ as soon as I tagged your name, it automatically posted my unfinished comment. So I went ahead and edited it to finish what I was typing from there! Would love to know your thoughts! I posted another comment as a reply to this first one that you’re tagged in.

*[on my way to take a how to Websleuth lesson now😩]* lol.

Oh ok, I understand what happened. No biggie, thought I had a glitch.

I see that Lisa was suggested back in Jan. 2020 (post 173) but don’t see that she was submitted. I have to agree, some things match but in comparing the two, just not sure about the PMI of about a year vs. almost 11 years from the time Lisa went missing until the time JD was found.

There were partial remains (with soft tissue) for JD. She had several fillings and also evidence that she had previously worn braces. Her dentals are available.

Lisa had very few dental restorations and no mention of braces. She also has dentals available.

Even with this, I would not discourage submitting. Since they both have dentals available, I would think the comparison could be a quick process.
