Details of Disappearance

Bynum was last seen at the San Franciscan Bar and Grill at Third Street and Runnels Street in downtown Big Spring, Texas, at 2:00 a.m. August 15, 2003. He reportedly left the bar with another man who has not been identified, and his truck was later in the bar's parking lot. Bynum has never been heard from again. He was reported missing later that same day.

His relatives, who all live in Big Spring, say his disappearance is uncharacteristic of him. He had a lunch appointment with his brother-in-law August 15 but never showed up. He is not believed to have been carrying much money on his person at the time of his disappearance.

Many rumors have circled about Bynum's disappearance but none can be substantiated by police. He has not used his cellular phone or credit cards or withdrawn any funds from his bank account since his disappearance. He is described as a cheerful, outgoing, trusting man.

At the time of his disappearance, Bynum was employed as a bartender with the Big Spring Fraternal Order of Elks, and he rode Harley Davidson motorcycles in his spare time and belonged to the local motorcycle club. He is childless and has never been married, but he was close to his father, stepmother and siblings and called them several times a week. They have not heard from him since his disappearance.

Foul play is suspected in Bynum's case, though when police examined his home they could not find evidence of bloodstains. He is considered endangered and his family members believe he is dead.

On August 14, 2003, 40-year-old William "Arlin" Bynum was at a bar and grill in Big Spring, Texas. Big Spring is where Arlin was born, but he was a stranger, having lived his entire life outside of the small town. Arlin enjoyed the evening having drinks with friends. He was last seen walking toward his truck on the morning of August 15, shortly before the bar closed. After that, the trail ends. The next day, Arlin didn't show up for lunch with a relative, and from there, his family knew something was wrong. They found his truck still parked outside the restaurant, and the search began. Twenty years later, Arlin has never been seen or heard from again. The story of his disappearance spans the spectrum from questionable friends, to abandoned wells, to the possibility of cartel involvement. Today, there are many complicated factors that make solving the mystery of what happened to Arlin Bynum seem nearly impossible, but his loved ones aren't giving up.

If you have any information about Arlin's disappearance, please call the Big Spring Police Department at 432-264-2559 or the Texas Rangers Division Company "E" at 915-834-7664. Crimestoppers is offering a cash reward. To submit an anonymous tip, call 432-263-8477 (TIPS) or use P3tips.com and reference case #20303930.

Is there anyone here who would submit his case to NamUs? I don't see a profile there. Maybe it could help his case. TIA.

Most recent article I could find. His family remains heartbroken and really need someone to come forward with the specific information that solves his case. There is a Crimestoppers reward.

I noticed that too. I am going to comment on the Vanished podcast's facebook page. His poor mom passed away a the beginning of October, after she was interviewed for the podcast. They said she could have died from a broken heart. That just breaks my heart.

Just wanted to reply with this update as I reside here in big spring and the information available on the death certificate in particular shows a date and cause of death even though his body was never found. I really want to get a copy of his death certificate and dig up the name of the physician signatory on it to find and ask why it was issued that way with a date of death listed as 3 days prior the date he was reported missing and find out if any of the other deaths they certified show inaccuracies.

Inaccurate death report, compromised evidence and missing body all complicate missing Big Spring man, Arlin Bynum’s case
