Have you seen Barry Hopkins?

Police are becoming increasingly concerned for the 65-year-old who was
at around 8.30am on Tuesday, March 22.

Mr Hopkins is described as white, of medium build and was last seen wearing a blue bomber style jacket, black trousers, a blue baseball cap and a face mask.

Mr Hopkins was seen walking in the direction of Peterlee but also previously lived in Stanley and could have taken a bus.

If you can help officers locate Mr Hopkins, call 101.

Can you help officers find Barry Hopkins?

The 65-year-old has not been seen since leaving his home in Shotton Colliery at around 8.30am on Tuesday, March 22.

He was seen on CCTV walking in the direction of Peterlee at 10.10am on the same day.

Mr Hopkins’ mobile phone was found by a member of public in Cotswold Place, Peterlee but enquiries have so far not been able to shed any light on his whereabouts and officers are becoming increasingly concerned.

Mr Hopkins is described as white, of medium build and was last seen wearing a blue bomber style jacket, black trousers, a blue baseball cap and a face mask.

If you can help officers locate Mr Hopkins, call 101.

Do you have CCTV or dashcam footage that could help officers find missing man Barry Hopkins?

Officers want to hear from anyone who lives or was passing the Caterpillar site, in Shotton Road, Peterlee, at around 10am on Tuesday, March 22.

He is described as white, of medium build and was last seen wearing a blue bomber style jacket, black trousers, a blue baseball cap and a face mask.

Officers have now released new CCTV footage showing the 65-year-old walking towards the junction with the A19 roundabout and Burnhope Way.

It is possible Mr Hopkins could have caught a lift.

If you can provide any information to help trace Mr Hopkins, call 101.

The poor guy doesn't look too steady on his feet. I think it might have helped if they'd released this moving footage earlier in the investigation (but that is a perennial complaint of mine).

I think this is the location in question (link to Google Maps Street View). One would hope that the police have undertaken a thorough search of the local area (including the culvert which passes right under where Barry is walking). It never ceases to amaze me how much natural environment (fields, woods, streams etc.) there is, even in what seems, at first glance, to be very much an urban setting.

The search area widens considerably if someone has given Barry a lift. If that is what happened, hopefully the new footage will job someone's memory.

Peterlee Police have issued a different photo of Barry, in which he is clean-shaven and looking completely different to the guy in the original photo. Looking back, the police do not seem to have mentioned whether he was bearded or clean-shaven at the time of his disappearance (although that could have changed several times over since then, of course). I suspect it was the latter, albeit with a mask covering much of his face.
