I don't know whether they just need to find a few more to make up the number, or if they need to start from scratch tomorrow. I do know that a new pool of jurors turn up on Monday each week and there is an excess over what is needed so the ones not selected for a trial beginning on the Monday have to return each day until they are picked.

So they have a better chance on a Monday, rather than a Thursday when the pool of jurors had been diminished.

Yes that's right, they might have had just sufficient because court would have known the trial was scheduled but it was their individual circumstances that made them unsuitable for a long trial.

I didn’t know you were even “allowed” to refuse to commit to a trial. It seems to me that that would massively skew a jury.

I will be covering the trial of Scott and Sarah Walker today. Scott is charged with the murder of Bernadette Walker. We'll have updates on the website throughout the day.

It seems to me that it would be much better to schedule trials which could last for 4 weeks or more to begin on a Monday rather than the end of the week ,especially if they are high profile and potential jurors could be eliminated because they have followed the case on social media.

They've just finished a bail hearing in Court 1, so probably doing the deep clean before * our * trial begins

Bernadette Walker trial: Jury selected as trial set to begin

The trial is taking place at Cambridge Crown Court, and this morning (Monday) a jury was selected. The trial is scheduled to last for more than a month. Mrs Justice Maura McGowan told the jury panel that the trial is likely to last until at least the third week of July.

A jury made up of 14 people was selected to start the trial - although this will be reduced to 12 shortly. The extra two were selected in case any issues arose at the beginning of the trial.

The initial jury has been made up of eight men and six women.

The case will be prosecuted by Lisa Wilding QC and Jonathan Polnay. Scott Walker will be represented by Elizabeth Marsh QC, while Sarah Walker will be represented by Alisdair Williamson QC and Colin Witcher.

I guess we all need to be mindful of the potential for 'contempt of court' from this point forward.

When I have to guess what's going on my mind makes all sorts of leaps. Maybe they're changing their pleas. :)

Yikes! Do you think? ... but late in the day eh?

Unlikely to make a difference to sentence this late?
