UK - Carole Wright, 62, murdered, Watlington Hill, Oxfordshire, 23 October 2020

I finished reading after I posted the link and yes, sounds really extreme behaviour there. I'm not actually sure why this is even in court, given it seems fairly agreed how bad his psychotic condition was - I suppose to just figure out the line between manslaughter via diminished responsibility and not guilty via insanity? Would've made more sense to reach some sensible agreement on it and not traumatise 12 jurors IMO.

Today's link: Live updates from fourth day of Christmas Common 'murder' trial - not entierely sure I even want to read it after the previous ones...

Definitely not nice reading I am in 2 minds I was hoping to be on the jury then I was not chosen, to see the videos of him at the point of arrest then in hospital would have been quite horiffic I would of thought. It's going to court because he pleaded "not guilty to committing whilst insane" ???? Is that correct. It's strange how this has not been covered by the local TV channels. Maybe tomorrow it will be all done and dusted.

It's a sad state of affairs for both parties tbh, if he ever does come round to rational thinking what would he think, I can't help feel sorry for the dad brother and sister they have lost a mother and a brother and a wife.

I dont know why it's gone to trail you would have thought the medical professionals opinions and barristers would have been enough, but then there is the point of innocent till proven guilty is why it's in court.

And the point it was agreeded he was not fit enough to appear in court but yet it's ok to try the case with him not being there.

I think I reached the conclusion that it could be a bit of a grey area where drugs are involved.

The Dr said drugs did not play a part in it, what I can't get my head around is what actually triggered the attack, was he insane till the point he attacked her or after.

Not surprised really, more surprised it even went to trial given the extremeness of it all.

Live: Day 5 of Christmas Common 'murder' trial

"Although found not guilty, the defendant has asked to be present for the next hearing, when Judge Pringle will consider how to dispose of the case. Unlike in other cases, where someone is found not guilty by reason of insanity, the judge has powers to keep someone in hospital for treatment.

The next hearing will be on December 21. "

Glad to hear that one, hopefully it'll be a long treatment course with any release conditional upon very regular checks and maintaining medications etc, this guy is clearly very dangerous when he gets into such a state, so he mustn't be allowed to get like that again.

It is the only fair result that could have happened I feel, hopefully Daniel will be helped to come to terms with the incident and his illness, there are no winners in this the family have lost 2 people Daniel and Carole the mother. I did speak to another jury member today he said. "I will never forget this, it was so sad as he was a loving son, just he lost his mind" another member of the jury has not slept because of the trail.

Sentence wise in my opinion it will be in a hospital until he is deemed well enough to be released and his schizophrenia is managed and treated, how long that will be who knows.

I am in 2 minds to write a of condolence letter to his dad once the sentencing is finished, can't imagine what he is going through.
