A police appeal has been launched after a 40-year-old man was reported missing from Colchester.

Christopher Scales, was reported missing shortly after 9.30pm yesterday, Tuesday, February 1.

He has been described as around 5ft 8ins tall, has a beard and brown hair.

Officers say he was last known to be wearing a fleece-lined dark blue denim jacket and is likely to be wearing tracksuit bottoms or jeans.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We are concerned for his welfare."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Essex Police on 101.

Officers are carrying out searches for a missing 40-year-old man from Colchester who they are "extremely concerned" about.

Christopher Scales was reported missing shortly after 9.30pm on Tuesday, February 1.

Police will be carrying out a number of searches for Mr Scales in the areas around Colchester.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "We are extremely concerned for his welfare.

"We are also urging the public to please be vigilant and look out for Christopher."

THE devastated mum of a missing father-of-two says she is “worried sick” and his disappearance is “definitely out of character.”

Vanessa Racher has been left distraught by the news her son, Christopher Scales, has gone missing from his home in Colchester.

The 40-year-old, who has a beard and brown hair and is described as being about 5ft 8ins tall, was reported missing to police at 9.30pm on Tuesday.

The Arsenal fan, who has a son and daughter, was last known to be wearing a fleece-lined dark blue denim jacket and is likely to be wearing tracksuit bottoms or jeans.

Vanessa, also from Colchester, admits she has not had much contact with her son for the last couple of years, but wants nothing more than for him to return home.

She said: “He is still my son and I am still his mum, I am worried sick and I do not want to think he is ill or hurt somewhere.

“This is definitely out of character for Chris as he thinks the world of his children and I can only imagine they are crushed.

“He is a very loving father and loves spending quality time with his children and he has a brilliant sense of humour.

“I saw him last working at Tesco, in Hythe, but Chris always loved decorating and if it stood still he would paint it.

“I was told he was seen in Wivenhoe a couple of days ago. Let’s just hope he turns up safe and well.”

The wife of a man who has been missing for eight days has pleaded for his safe return, saying "please come home".

Christopher Scales, was reported missing from his Colchester home on February 1.

Emma Robinson, his wife, said: "Chris, no matter where you are, how you are feeling or what you are doing, please come home. If you can’t come home for whatever reason, please just let us know that you are safe.

“You are loved, you are so kind, and you are a wonderful husband and father. Please come home."

Christopher and Emma have been together for 22 years and have two children, Harry, 20, and Lilly, 15.

His wife added: "I am worried. Harry and Lily are worried about you and we all just want you to come home."

We are continuing to search for Christopher Scales, who has now been missing from his home in Colchester for three weeks.

Christopher, 40, has been missing since February 1.

Despite widespread searches across the borough, he has not been located and we remain very concerned for his welfare.

He was last known to be wearing a new black or dark blue Lacoste t-shirt, a black Adidas tracksuit bottoms, black Reebok trainers with a white sole and a dark blue denim Sherpa jacket.

Christopher, whose home is in the New Town area of Colchester, is about 5ft 8ins tall, has a beard and brown hair.

Christopher’s son, Harry Robinson, has sent a message to his dad, urging him to make contact.

Harry, 20, said:

“It has been three weeks now without you here at home dad, and to be perfectly honest they’ve been the hardest weeks of my life.
“Not having the man I’ve idolised since the day I was born here with me has been killing me.
“From our rants about Arsenal, to how much we both love to wind mum and Lily up, it’s been really hard.
“You’re literally my best friend. I know you’re out there dad, I feel it in my gut, I love you so much dad.
“I wish I’d told you more, but I’m praying every morning and night for your safety and well-being, please come home dad, we all love you so much.”

Chief Inspector Rob Huddleston, Colchester District Commander, who has overseen the search for Christopher, added:

“Christopher, I am appealing directly to you. Please get in touch to let us know you are OK.
“I have spoken at length with your family since your disappearance and they are aware you may not want to come home, but they desperately want to know you are alive and well, that is all they ask. Your wife and children simply want to know you are safe.
“It only takes one call to us on 101 to let us know you’re safe or if you prefer you can make contact directly to the Missing People charity by calling or texting 116000.”

Ch Insp Huddleston added:

“We are continuing to dedicate resources to find Christopher, including large-scale CCTV work across Colchester and indeed beyond. We have said from the beginning of our search that we will leave no stone unturned.”

THE wife of a man who has been missing for just shy of six months has confirmed her husband's body has now been found.

Christopher Scales, 40, suddenly left his family home in Colchester at about 9.15pm on February 1, leaving behind his mobile phone and wedding ring.

Since then, the father-of-two had not been seen and had not made contact with his life-partner Emma Robinson or his children, Harry, 20, and Lily, 16.
Speaking to the Gazette, Emma has now confirmed her husband’s body was discovered at Distillery Pond, just off Old Heath Road, earlier this week.

She said: “I want people to know he has been found – there are lots of people who have followed this from the beginning who need to know.

“I definitely feel like I have closure now, because I have got him back – I thought we would never find him.”

Since the heart-breaking discovery, Emma, Harry, and Lily, have left flowers, touching tribute messages and a family photo near to where he was found.
