THE family of a Musselburgh man who has been missing for seven days have offered a £1,000 reward for information following his disappearance.

Dean Conner was last seen on Musselburgh’s Links Avenue at about 5pm on December 31.

Now, his stepfather, Gary, is offering a £1,000 reward for information that leads to his whereabouts.

Additionally, he is seeking community members to help search areas of Musselburgh, Prestonpans and Tranent.

He said: "I need anyone within his community of associates to get on phones, visit the usual places and speak to anyone that might have some knowledge of where he has been or might be and get back to me by DM on Facebook with any information.

"Someone must know something!!

"We are now in a bit of a panic and fear some of the worst outcomes so want swift action here."

It comes as the 37-year-old's mother Lorraine urged her son to get in touch.

She said: “I am worried sick and need to know that Dean is safe.

“Dean, please call me or reach out to someone and let them know you are safe.”

Sergeant Murray Legge, from Police Scotland, has also encouraged people to come forward to help find the 37-year-old.

The officer said: “As time passes Dean’s family grow increasingly concerned for him.

“We have carried out a number of enquiries and now have CCTV footage of him, so we know what he was wearing shortly before he went missing.

“We believe that he could have travelled outwith the area and would appeal for anyone in Edinburgh, or further afield to look out for him.

“He is likely to travel on foot or by bus.

“If you know Dean, we want to speak to you – think back, when was the last time you heard from him?

“We urge anyone with any information to come forward.”

It has now been two weeks since Alice Byrne and Dean Conner were last seen in Edinburgh – here’s everything we know so far.

Police have confirmed that enquiries are continuing to trace both Dean and Alice who were last on December 31, 2021 and January 1, 2022.

Dean Conner: When was the Musselburgh man last seen?
Dean was last seen at around 5pm on Friday, December 31, in the Links Avenue area of Musselburgh, walking toward the promenade.

Police believe the 37-year-old may have left the area either walking or by bus, but he hasn’t been seen since.

What do we know so far about his disappearance?
The last police appeal was issued on January 6 when officers urged the public in and around Edinburgh to look out for Dean and report anything that may be useful in their search.

Sergeant Murray Legge, said: “As time passes Dean’s family grows increasingly concerned for him.

“We believe that he could have travelled outwith the area and would appeal for anyone in Edinburgh, or further afield to look out for him. He is likely to travel on foot or by bus. If you know Dean, we want to speak to you – think back, when was the last time you heard from him?"

His mother, Lorraine also appealed for Dean to get in touch with someone saying that she is worried sick and just needs to know that he is safe.

His step-father, Gary Finnie, went as far as offering £1,000 reward for any information which helps to trace him.

In a post on Facebook, Mr Finnie thanked the local communities for their concern and support, but said his “head was spinning” as Dean had still not been heard from.

The heartbroken step-father added that “someone must know something”.

Officers are out and about in the Musselburgh area as they continue their enquiries to find Dean Conner almost a month since he was reported missing.

They are knocking on doors and handing out leaflets in the hope of jogging the memories of anyone who may have seen him since he was reported missing on Friday, 31 December, 2021.

Dean was last seen around 5pm in Links Avenue and was going towards the promenade area.

The 37-year-old’s family is asking anyone who might know where Dean is, or have seen him since he went missing to get in touch. “We are completely heartbroken and just want to find Dean. Please get in touch with the police if you can help,” they said.

Dean is described as white, 5ft 10ins with short dark brown/black hair. CCTV footage of Dean shows that shortly before he went missing he was wearing a black hooded top, black jogging bottoms and white trainers.

Chief Inspector Jocelyn O’Conner said: “It is almost a month since Dean was last seen and his family is understandably increasingly concerned about him. I am asking people in the town, or who were visiting the area, to think back and see if they can remember anything that might help us to find him.

“Small pieces of information could help us to find out what has happened, so even if you think it is insignificant, please get in touch. In addition, I urge anyone who has seen Dean since he went missing or knows where he might be to call us.”

Anyone who can assist officers with their enquiries is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2238 of Friday, 31 December, 2021.

Theres an update here from the help get Dean Conner home to his mum group.

It is with a very heavy heart we received the news today that the Police have come to an end of their hunt for our boy having exhausted all avenues with no success.
As Dean has not been seen on any cctv, or anywhere else with no use of phone or bank cards since leaving his house in the direction of the Promenade (only 30m away) there is a heavy suspicion that he somehow ended up in the Firth of Forth.
Even though extensive Air & Sea searches have been carried out on both East Coast and Fife assisted by the Oceanographer there has been no sighting of any evidence to confirm this. But this is still the main thought.
Dean is now officially recorded as "Missing, Presumed Dead"
The case will remain open but no further action will be taken unless further evidence is presented.

Clearly this is a big mile stone for us and devastated doesn't cover how we feel.

We are taking this news on board and accepting the fact it is a good possibility of what might have happened but are always aware that there are also other possibilities. Perhaps what happened will come to light one day or maybe we will never know.

A very sad day that will haunt us forever.

So, does that mean the same will apply to Alice Byrne? Missing for same length of time and nothing there either.

My thoughts are with his family :(

THE stepfather of missing Musselburgh man Dean Conner has said he is “missing, presumed dead”.

Thirty-seven-year-old Dean was last seen on Musselburgh’s Links Avenue at about 5pm on Hogmanay.

He was walking towards the Promenade area of the town and is described as five-foot-10-inches tall, with short dark brown/black hair.

Searches have taken place over the last month, with police officers knocking on doors in the town and handing out leaflets.

However, his stepfather Gary Finnie posted on social media: “It is with a very heavy heart we received the news today that the Police have come to an end of their hunt for our boy having exhausted all avenues with no success.

“As Dean has not been seen on any CCTV, or anywhere else with no use of phone or bank cards since leaving his house in the direction of the Promenade (only 30m away) there is a heavy suspicion that he somehow ended up in the Firth of Forth.

“Even though extensive air and sea searches have been carried out on both East Coast and Fife assisted by the oceanographer there has been no sighting of any evidence to confirm this.

“But this is still the main thought.

“Dean is now officially recorded as "Missing, Presumed Dead".

A message from Deans step dad. They have not closed the case.

I wanted to clear something up after reading a few comments.

The Police have not closed the case for Dean.
The case remains open.

What has been said is that they have completed the door to door and street survey, searched the river by boat, canoe and foot with poles, searched the sea by air and boat, surveyed all cctv available, interviewed anyone with connection to Dean and taken note of coordinated searches by the public and myself, they have no more live action points to take.

The case still remains open and any new information is still very welcome. Keeping up awareness is still important too.
