Family launch campaign to discover what happened to Debbie Griggs who went missing 15 years ago

The family of Debbie Griggs, some of whom live in Dorset, believe that she was murdered and are desperate to find her body and bring her killer to justice.

She was last seen leaving the home she then shared with husband Andrew and their three children in Walmer, Kent, on May 5, 1999.

Debbie was 34 years old and four-and-a-half months pregnant at the time. The family car was later found abandoned.
---
After Debbie disappeared, her husband and three sons moved to Dorset and her mum Pat lost contact with them.

Tracy said the boys, Luke, who would now be around 17, Jake, now 19, and Jeremy, 22, might not even know of their maternal grandparents.

Pat, 74, who still lives in Deal, Kent, told the Echo: “We’ve not seen them since they moved down to Dorset.

“They’re all grown up now and probably don’t even remember us. I don’t know how much longer I’m going to be here as my health is deteriorating.

“I want my grandsons to know that we really love them and it wasn’t our fault that they were moved down to Dorset.

“I would really like to get in touch with the boys.”

01 May 2003 Find who murdered my Debbie pleads mother

THE DESPERATE mother of missing Debbie Griggs is convinced her daughter has been murdered and has accused the police of letting her down.

Patricia Cameron fears the case has been pushed to the bottom of a big pile and won't be solved in her lifetime.

"I have been sure from the start that Debbie is dead and I don't believe her killer will be brought to justice before I die, "she said.

"I have lost all faith in Kent police and feel it is now time for someone else to take over," Mrs Cameron added.

The 34-year-old mother of three young boys was four months pregnant when she went missing from her home in Cross Road, Walmer.

Debbie's husband Andrew has started a new life with his three sons and parents in Dorset but Mrs Cameron says she cannot move on.

"I cannot look to the future until we find out what happened to Debbie," she said.

Her daughter's disappearance has taken its toll on Mrs Cameron physically and emotionally.

She has suffered a heart attack and other health problems since Debbie disappeared and is haunted by dreams of her daughter.

"I dream about her all the time and sometimes I see her with the baby she was expecting," said Mrs Cameron, who has fought for answers to the mystery of her daughter's disappearance.

There has been no trace of the 34-year-old since she disappeared from the family home in Walmer, near Deal, in May 1999.

Her mother, Patricia Cameron, said on Tuesday that police had let her down by not making the investigation a priority.

She said she now feared the worst.

Kent Police said they suspected Ms Griggs' disappearance was down to foul play because she had no reason to run away.

06 May 2004 Missing mum: suspect 'had to be released'

POLICE have revealed that they did arrest a man in connection with the disappearance five years ago of missing Walmer mother Debbie Griggs.

This week - the fifth anniversary of Debbie's disappearance - police have admitted that they made an arrest two and a half years ago but the Crown Prosecution Service decided that there was no reasonable chance of conviction.

They have not revealed the identity of the man arrested.
---
Debbie was 34 when she went missing from her home in Cross Road on May 5, 1999. She was the mother of three boys who are now are now 11, nine and six, and was four and a half months pregnant.

Her white Peugeot 309 car was found abandoned at The Shrubbery in Walmer a week after she disappeared.
---
The officer in charge of the case, Detective Chief Inspector Dean Barnes, said: "Late in 2002 a man was arrested but not charged. A file went to the CPS and while they praised the police for the thoroughness of the investigation they decided there would not be a reasonable prospect of a conviction in court."

Man charged with killing wife in 1999
A man has been charged with murder over the disappearance of his pregnant wife 20 years ago.

Andrew Griggs, 56, is accused of killing Debbie Griggs in May 1999.

[...]

Mr Griggs, of Ringwood Road, St Leonards, Dorset, has been remanded in custody and will appear at Maidstone Crown Court on 14 March.

I wonder if he was the one they arrested in 2002?

I have no confirmation but I have no doubt it was him who was arrested at that time as he was always main suspect. I just hope they do have much more on him now then in 2002.

Really sad that her children had no contact with Debbie's side of family after her disappearance. To have a chance to hear and learn more about their mum and bond with grandparents. Debbie's mum died of broken heart, on so many levels.

Man charged with missing wife's murder bailed
Despite objections from the prosecution, High Court Judge Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb granted the 56-year-old bail under strict conditions.

Griggs, who spoke only to be identified when he appeared at Maidstone Crown Court by TV link with Elmley Prison, will have to live and sleep at his Dorset address and report to his local police station daily.

He will also be subject to a tagged curfew from 6pm to 6am and not apply for international travel documents. He must not contact any witnesses in the case.

A £70,000 surety was posted by Griggs’ partner, who sat in the public gallery during the hearing.

Angry husband 'wished his wife dead', court hears

'A man said he wished his pregnant wife was dead before she disappeared without trace, a court has heard.

Andrew Griggs, 57, is alleged to have murdered Debbie Griggs before disposing of her body in May 1999.

Tradesman Peter Monks said Mr Griggs visited him twice in the weeks before she went missing and complained she wanted to "take half his business".

Mr Monks told Canterbury Crown Court the defendant, who denies murder, had said he "wished her dead".'

'I am afraid what he will do next'

'A court heard yesterday (Tuesday) that Debbie had said in an affidavit Griggs threatened to “sort her out” and was “afraid what he will do next.”

The evidence came as Debbie challenged a non-molestation order made by Griggs in March that year, requesting she left the property.'

BBM

Well she didn't leave the property. By hook or by crook springs to mind.
