Derek Beattie, from Harthill was last seen leaving Grace's Bar at around 7.35pm on Saturday, November 27 before crossing King George V Bridge and heading in the direction of Commerce Street.

Now officers believe that Derek spoke to a man outside Grace's before his disappearance.

They describe him as mid-30s, with short red/brown hair and a red/brown beard. He was wearing glasses, a black jacket or jumper with a white shirt at the collar and black trousers.

Cops believe that the man gave Derek directions to another location.

“We are particularly keen to speak to the man who spoke to Derek outside of Grace’s Bar and I would urge this person to get in touch.

“I would ask if anyone has seen someone matching his description or anyone with knowledge of Derek’s whereabouts to contact with police.”

Are you familiar with the area @MsMiniSleuth ? I hope they find the man who gave him directions soon, it could be very important to know where he aimed to go, and if he got there

there's really nothing over the king George bridge, tradeston is largely an 'industrial' area except from the Wallace street flats. West

Unless he was heading along towards govan or paisley road west.

Wish we knew what direction he turned into commerce street?

I don't think they actually know if he reached Commerce Street. All of the reports say (para) 'he was last seen crossing the bridge heading in the direction of Commerce Street'

If he crossed bridge he would come directly onto the A77/Commerce Street.

Yes. IF he made it across the bridge. It looks like they are doubtful he did as they are searching the river

But it seems he was seen crossing it as the reports are fairly conclusive, and if they were searching near the Court, he would have turned left off Commerce Street onto Oxford Street.

Crossing, yes. But not across and actually on Commerce. If they think he went into the water off the bridge they would search in the direction of the flow of the river, it doesn't mean to say he went in that direction on foot. He may have done, but so far they haven't confirmed that he made it off the bridge on foot, only that he was seen on the bridge. The only reason they mention Commerce Street is to make it clear that he was heading south on the bridge, not north.

I hope he did, and that he returns to his family soon, but so far the land and air searches have all been focused on the river.

It looks like there isn't going to be an official announcement, but it's pretty clear what's happened unfortunately. Very sad
