Forensic experts want volunteers to donate their corpses to Britain's first body farm

Scientists are hoping to study on Britain's first 'body farm' if plans for the outdoor, open-air grave site are accepted.

Ministers are reported to be looking into the possibility of opening a body farm so taphonomy – the science of decomposition – may be practiced.

On the farm, featured in crime novels by Patricia Cornwell and in forensic science programmes on television, a number of true-to-life scenarios are replicated to study how a corpse will change post-mortem.

Wow.

Where is it going to be is my first question?

Second question : Do they pay NOK for the bodies?

It says "donate" so I rather think not.

Shiresleuth, you thinking about selling your body? :)

In TX the deceased has to pay the transportation to the body farm. I've considered this. Free your family of responsibilities at (hopefully) a sad time for them. AND keep money in the family instead of it going to the funeral home.

Here in US we have at least one company that I'm familiar with that will accept some
whole bodies for donation at no expenses at all to family. They will even pay for cremation after they have used any organs or tissue. We heard about it through
Hospice. I believe they're in Washinton state.

I am interested in where they are thinking of locating it. Maybe on a large military installation somewhere?

0nce the bodies are on the farm then they are presumably completely of limits to NOK for visiting or paying respects. Or do they have a chapel to visit at the location ?
