Killed for a bottle of Tia Maria and a box of chocolates: Police open cold case investigation into pensioner sisters who were murdered at their corner shop 30 years ago

They were the Birmingham step-sisters killed for a bottle of Tia Maria and boxes of chocolates in a murder that has never been solved.

Now police will make an appeal 30 years after the deaths of pensioners Alice and Edna Rowley, who were found brutally murdered at their corner shop in 1987.

Edna, 77, and 87-year-old Alice had devoted their lives to the business they had run for more than 50 years in Greswolde Road, Sparkhill, Birmingham.

There is no mention of a sexual assault, so assuming and hoping that there was none. Wondering about the possibility that a female was responsible for the crimes? imo.
Living in the shadow of an unsolved murder - Arwebhosting Blog
"Your body of 87-year-old Alice, who was simply strangled, was based in the family room. Edna, 77, who was simply smothered, is discovered in her own bed room.

Their killer stole just two boxes of chocolates, a container of Tia Maria along with a radio cassette player.

“Ah yes, Edna and Alice,” states my interrogator Lloyd Archer. “Terrible.”

He beckons more than a neighbour, Denis Byrne, who’s out walking his small three-legged dog.

It could appear peculiar, however the two men not just know of the killings, additionally they understand what others on the street know of the murders.

This network of intelligence, accrued over a long time during myriad neighbourly conversations, spans issues such as the suspected culprits, theories regarding the way the women came into existence wiped out and also the fate of the killer."
