Emma's clothing and the belongings she had with her on the night she went missing have never been found.

The new search aims to recover any of those items, which also bring clear forensic opportunities that could assist the inquiry.

Police said they were keen to speak to anyone who uses this area, perhaps walkers, joggers, dog walkers or courting couples.

Detective Superintendent David McLaren said: 'Finding the person or people responsible for Emma's murder is a priority for us.

'I'm particularly keen to hear from anyone who has been involved in prostitution and who may have been taken to the woods near Roberton.

'It's a remote location and would take around 40 minutes to travel there from Glasgow city centre on the M74.

'Even if you can't be sure if it's the same location you were taken to, please get in touch if someone has taken you out with the city centre.

Murder victim Emma Caldwell
Margaret Caldwell spoke on the 12th anniversary of the day the 27-year-old vanished, sparking one of Scotland's biggest police hunts.

Now, detectives have revealed new information about her disappearance which indicates the victim - who had turned to prostitution - may have got into a black car in Glasgow city centre just hours before being strangled to death.
Four Turkish men were arrested in 2007 over her death but the case collapsed. One suspect was later convicted of rape and sexual assaults involving prostitutes.

The men were linked to the victim from blood traces found on bedding at a Turkish cafe, amid claims from other vice girls of being raped there.

The last call received by her mobile came from a Turkish man in Glasgow's East End - at 11.20pm on April 4, 2005 - and police experts showed that the last "ping" from her phone was close to the cafe.
Mrs Caldwell made her appeal as specialist officers launched a fresh search of the site where her daughter's body was found bound, with the kind of electrical cable used by musicians, in May 2005.

The search is focusing on two specific areas - including a pond - in a remote, woodland location west of Newton, near Biggar in Lanarkshire.

Detectives believe other Glasgow prostitutes were taken to the isolated spot - around five miles from the M74, including more than a mile of single-track roads - and are appealing for them to come forward.

Previously, the last recorded sighting of Emma was on Butterbiggins Road in the south-side of Glasgow. Detectives have established that Emma may have been seen getting into a black saloon style vehicle/car, similar to a BMW and that it may have originated from the Dumfries area.
If the killer is reading or watching he should know there will never be a time limit on justice for Emma Caldwell. This appeal today is not only for Emma, but also to the women who will have been hurt by this man or the friends or family who were too scared to speak out 12 years ago. "If you know anything, saw anything or can help in any way then please have the courage to come forward and speak to the police in total confidence.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.

Who killed Emma? - BBC News - interesting reading, the guy this article focusses on certainly sounds suspicious based on this limited information.
Excellent article, thanks for posting!

"CCTV shows Emma leave her hostel for the final time.

“She was lovely, funny, caring. We used to walk into town every night and we would just talk. Not about the bad stuff in life, just the good stuff.”

Emma walked that road for the last time that night in April 2005. The hostel’s CCTV captured her as she stepped out into the darkness.

Her body was found five weeks later, in woods 40 miles from Glasgow. Naked and strangled.

But Emma wasn’t the only sex worker who visited those woods."

The dog walker couldn’t quite believe it was a body. Emma Caldwell was in a shallow drainage ditch 20 metres into the dense forest. She’d been lying there for five weeks.

Emma was naked, apart from a hair clasp and a gold ring. There was no sign of her clothes or her bag.

In these same woods, under the thick canopy of trees, 🤬🤬🤬🤬 magazines were scattered on the ground and underwear was hanging off branches. While none of these items were linked to Emma, the spot was clearly a haunt for sexual activity.

Margaret and Willie Caldwell were spared the awful task of identifying their daughter. DNA tests confirmed it was her.

Nicola Sturgeon urged to support inquiry call into Emma Caldwell's death as witness breaks silence to reveal suspect's obsession - The Sunday Post

The first minister is MSP for Govanhill where Emma was living before her death in 2005 and her family’s former MSP Hugh Henry urged Sturgeon to back escalating calls for action in the reopened inquiry, about to enter its seventh year.

A PODCAST by one of Scotland’s leading investigative journalists is about to shed new light on the probe into the unsolved murder of sex worker Emma Caldwell.

Scots journalist to shed light on the probe into the murder of Emma Caldwell

BAFTA-winning Sam Poling has made ‘Who Killed Emma?’, which uncovers evidence suggesting Emma’s former client Iain Packer should be the prime suspect.

I wonder why he wasn't treated as the prime suspect? Police informer? Undercover ops? Or just a major cockup over conspiracy?

Man appears in court accused of murdering Emma Caldwell
A MAN has appeared in court today accused of murdering Emma Caldwell.

Iain Packer, 49, allegedly assaulted the 27-year-old in 2005.

Emma was reported missing in April 2005 before her body was found in woodlands near Biggar, South Lanarkshire, a month later.

Packer made no plea to the murder charge at a private hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court through his advocate John Brannigan.

Packer is accused of 38 charges overall which include 11 rape charges, sexual assault and abduction.

He was remanded in custody pending further examination by sheriff Mark McGuire.

Packer, from Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, will appear in court again within the next eight days.

Emma's lawyer Aamer Anwar declined to comment on the allegations.

A man has pleaded not guilty to charges alleging he murdered sex worker Emma Caldwell and subjected another 27 women to physical and sexual assaults.

Advocate Ronnie Renucci KC told judge Lord Beckett that his client Iain Packer denied killing Miss Caldwell in April 2005. Mr Packer also denies a further 46 charges detailing allegations that he abused 27 more women over a 26 year period.

Mr Packer’s pleas to the charges emerged during a two hour long hearing on Tuesday in which it emerged that the accused’s trial could take 11 weeks. The court heard that it may take four further months for Mr Renucci to complete all of his “inquiries” into the case which the Crown plans to present against Mr Packer.

This prompted Lord Beckett to fix a date for the trial to take place at the High Court in Glasgow in 13 months time.

Lord Beckett said: “I will fix an 11 week long trial to commence its float on January 15 at the High Court in Glasgow.”

Prosecutors claim he strangled Ms Caldwell - who was aged 27 at the time of her death - 27, in woodland near Biggar, Lanarkshire, in April 2005. The Crown also allege that he attacked five other women at the same location.

Prosecutors claim that Mr Packer killed Ms Caldwell at Limefield Woods in Biggar on April 5 2005 by restraining her, seizing her wrists, compressing her neck with his hands and a cable and strangling her. The charge states he also had “intent” to rape her. Prosecutors also claim that on the same date and same location, Mr Packer did “dispose” of Ms Caldwell’s naked body, clothes and personal belongings including a mobile phone.

He also allegedly cleaned the interior of car and prosecutors say he carried out these actions in a bid to “conceal and destroy evidence” and to “avoid detection, arrest and prosecution” for the murder of Ms Caldwell. Prosecutors claim he carried out these actions with the intent of defeating the ends of justice. Mr Packer is also accused of indecently assaulting Ms Caldwell in August 2004 at London Road and Green Street, in Glasgow’s East end.

The jury in the Emma Caldwell murder trial will travel to the site where her body was discovered.

A judge confirmed the decision as the man accused of killing the 27-year-old in 2005 appeared in the dock for a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow.

Iain Packer, 50, is charged with assaulting Ms Caldwell with intent to rape and murdering her in Limefield Woods in Biggar, South Lanarkshire.

He has pleaded not guilty to that and 45 other charges.

[…]

The trial is due to begin in January and is expected to last about nine weeks.

I worked at Inglefield Street hostel at the time of Emma's murder. I hate the way all the headlines portray her, she was an incredibly sweet lady. One of the very few girls/women in there who genuinely cared about others. Her murder was completely senseless, she would've done anything even for that monster because that is exactly who she was. The loss of her sister hit her very hard and unfortunately led her down the path of drugs.

The atmosphere afterwards was really sketchy and sadly it really amplified the feeling of distrust and paranoia, some ladies it scares them straight, others it amplified their usage. It was horrendous.
