Grandparents are charged with the murder of two year old Ethan Ives of Garden City, Flintshire.

Ethan's mother is also facing charges related to the toddler's death.

''The pair appeared before Mold Crown Court via video link from prison on Wednesday (March 6) for a bail application hearing.
Judge Rhys Rowlands denied the defendants bail, meaning they will be remanded in custody pending a further plea and trial preperation and arraignement hearing on May 17.

The court heard that a provisional trial date has been set for November of this year.

Shannon Kayleigh Ives (27), from Mold, has been charged with causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm, and causing the assault, ill treatment, neglect or abandonment of a child to cause unnecessary suffering or injury.
She has been bailed to appear before Wrexham Magistrates Court on April 4.''

I've just noticed that the quote in my OP now says Ethan's surname is Griffiths, not Ives. So future news updates might use the Griffiths surname. I'm guessing it's a situation where, when a child's parents aren't married, the child is automatically registered with both surnames.

How sad that no one in a family protects a 2-year-old. It says he had a brain injury. It sounds like they think one or two hurt him and the others failed to protect him or immediately help him. JMO.

Ethan-Ives Griffiths
Yesterday, the court heard Shannon Ives said she saw bruises on her "skeletal" son and feared he had been "beaten up". She said she noticed the "purple" and "yellow" marks on her son

The bruises were spotted on the two-year-old's arms, legs and back on August 13, 2021 at his grandparents' home, she told police. She said she tried to leave as it "wasn't safe" there but the issue "blew over".

Shannon tells police she checked Ethan's body on the Friday and found purple bruises which were 5p coin sized.

SI said she found 'six to ten' purple or yellow-green bruises on his legs.

She felt two of them on his shin and he went 'Ow' as if 'someone's hurt him'.

Absolutely shocking cctv footage. If they did this in front of cameras imagine what they did in private

Do you think people like the grandparents realise in court when seeing the evidence that they've behaved like monsters to the child? Or do they sit and justify their treatment to themselves?

I'd like to think their actions haunt them every waking moment, but sadly I doubt it does!

I guess if they saw it like we do they wouldn't have done it in the first place. It's heartbreaking. He looked so cute. I found myself wishing I could have looked after him instead of them and treated him kindly.

"Two-year-old boy callously murdered by his grandparents

would still be alive

if his father had been allowed to see him,

heartbroken family claims."

This is a tough one. Partner is from a Welsh-speaking family not far from there and much discussion of this case and its horrors.

Ethan looked such a sweet fella. Who gets this angry with a (formerly) sunny, active 2 YO? Absolutely horrific.
