Simon Easton, 25, left home seven years ago to find work, and fell into a spiral of drugs and petty crime, mental health issues and homelessness, losing touch with his family.

Homelessness workers put out a video which went viral on facebook, and within 2 hours family members were in contact. Now reunited, and even a job offer has come out of this.

In the original video to his family Simon says: “I am still here, I am still alive, I have stopped all the drugs and all the crime,

“I love you all, mam and dad, my two sisters. I have been away for a long time, I would like to link back up and say hello.

“I really do love you mam, there hasn’t been a day that I haven’t missed you. I have done a lot of bad things in my life and I am willing to try and correct that now.

“There has been a lot of ups and downs, but I want to correct them, I want to let you know that I love you I want to put that right, please pass the message on.”

Joanne, of Washington , added: “It was unreal. I didn’t think I would hear from him again. Seven years is so long.

“It’s still fresh. It’s overwhelming, I still have tears.

“He’s happy to be home. He didn’t think anyone would take him back. I always would have taken him back.”

Joanne said: “He wanted to apologise for things in the past. I told him he was forgiven.

Simon said: “When I woke up that day and when I took the phone, I didn’t expect to be back with my mam.

“I thought she wouldn’t want me.

“I was worried about her a lot. Would she be alright? Would she be able to cope?
