''TERROR TIMELINE:
ATTACK 1. January 25 1991: Two 23-year-old lovers are in their car at Beech Clump car park when a masked man with a handgun pulls open the passenger door and demands cash. He then ties them up using a seatbelt and plastic garden ties and puts plastic bags over their heads before launching a serious sexual assault on the woman. When done, the victims say he removed the bags before calmly walking away into the night.

ATTACK 2. November 3 1992: A couple are in Spindle Trees car park when a torch suddenly shines through the window, the door is pulled open and a masked man with gun demands money. The male victim is tied up and forced into his car boot. His girlfriend is stripped from waist down and has masking tape wrapped round her head in a "mummy" fashion. She is carried to the attacker's car and driven her to a house and raped. Hours later she is dumped in a layby.

ATTACK 3. November 29 1994: A couple are in Forest View car park when man knocks on the window waving gun and demands money. They give it to him through crack in window, but when he tells them to open their door. The boyfriend starts to get out and the attacker flees.

ATTACK 4. April 22 1996: Two teenagers, a girl aged 16 and a boy aged 18, are in Hawthorns car park when man in balaclava flings open the car door, puts gun in their faces and demands cash. The pair are tied up and the girl's handbag is put over the man's head. The girl is again bound round the head with masking tape, marched to a nearby car, and driven out past Sparsholt where the man then sexually assaults her before dumping her by the road.

ATTACK 5. May 28 1998: A couple in are Spindle Trees car park when a man tries the door handle of their car. Before he can demand any cash the couple start up the car and drive off, leaving the attacker standing alone.''

''The most serious incident was on November 3 1992 when the attacker forced his way into a couple's car. He subdued the man and gagged and blindfolded the young woman. He carried her to his vehicle, driving her to an unknown location, but believed to be in the Cheriton area, where he raped her.
The case had been reactivated in spring 2001 when fresh information came to light about a green, short-wheel base, Series 3 Land Rover seen near the scene of the crime.
It had a canvas cover and drop down tailgate and an old-style S-registration number plate.''
''In each attack, the attacker used a Beretta-style handgun and in the 1992 assault wore an olive green Italian-style Army jacket.

The attacker is forensically aware and ensures all items he brings are taken away.''
First broadcast on Channel 4 in 2001.

''The first thing victims say they recall is a car driving in to where they were parked, sweeping the area with its lights, stopping for a second, and then driving off.

In each case just minutes later a masked man suddenly appeared at their windows, pointed a Berreta-style handgun in their faces, and demanded all their money.
In several cases the man put the victims at ease by initially telling them he was only there to rob them, but within seconds he would then start tying them up, often using plastic garden ties, before carrying out his real aim - sexual assault.

The most horrific attack saw the boyfriend bound and shut in the boot of his car, while the girl was stripped from the waist down, wrapped in mummy-like fashion round the head with masking tape, carried to another car and driven to a house where she was raped.
The man then dumped the victim, still semi-naked, in a lay-by at Cheriton several hours later, leaving her to stagger to a nearby house for help.''
''He was described as a man in his late 30s, taller than average, of medium build with short dark hair and who spoke with no discernible accent.''

''Det Supt Watts added: "This man is very calm, very controlled, very in charge when he's undertaking the offence, so we could be looking at somebody who has a professional or personal background in control and order - perhaps a military or police background. I think it's also likely to be somebody who has either lived or worked near to Farley Mount, because this is a very isolated spot."

I thought that the 'new information' from 2001 came from a couple who were approached by the FMR, and then followed his car, noticing that it was a green Land Rover.

Was this just before the abduction attack in 1992? And does it mean that there are actually six known attacks/attempted attacks, rather than five?

Did he attempt two attacks on November 3rd 1992?

The Southern Daily Echo reported on 11th April 2001 that there was " almost no forensic evidence".

He used condoms and took away the masking tape, plastic bags and plastic garden ties with him.

However, he didn't completely strip the victims, so perhaps it's possible that he left trace DNA.

Operation Kayak was set up in 1995 and there have been at least three arrests.

One in 1996, then the pervert ex-cop from the documentary in 2000, and then the 'prime suspect' after the appeal in 2002.
Do you have any sources for this information? Please don't say 'Facebook'.

JMO, but this demonstrates an above average understanding of the role forensics play in catching criminals.
He appears to have planned every small detail of his attacks with this firmly in mind.

The 1996 arrest and Operation Kayak information are from local and Southern area press reports.
The ex cop arrest is featured in the documentary (second post in this thread) and in the book.
The final arrest is mentioned in the press report dotr posted (also in the second post of this thread).

The perp tries to engage in 'banter' and 'unnecessary conversations' with his victims.

When one victim says she is nervous, he tells her she's not as nervous as he is.

When he carries a victim over his shoulder, he tells her that it's lucky he used to be a fireman.

When he removes the masking tape from a mummified victim, he complains about the poor quality of modern masking tape.

IIRC he also claims that he is only commits such attacks because he's a widower and hasn't had sex for six years. The profilers think this is nonsense, and suspect he's the type of man who womanises or engages in extra marital affairs.

''On April 22, 1996 another woman had a lucky escape after she was tied up with tape and forced into the attacker's vehicle. After indecently assaulting her, the attacker cut her free.

On May 28, 1998 a couple escaped when the attacker tried to wrench open their car door. The doors were locked and they drove off before he could get in.''

*ASSISTANCE NEEDED - CALLING ON GEO SPECIALISTS TO HELP*

In 1992, the FMR drove his victim on an approximately 45 minute journey to a property which has never been identified.

Once there, he carried the victim up some stairs, then forced her to put on a loose fitting woollen dress, before he raped her twice.

Police believe that the property was within a 45 minute drive/15 miles of Farley Mount.

THE PROPERTY HAD LOW CEILINGS, A CIRCULAR STONE STAIRCASE, A DRIVEWAY LEADING TO THE SIDE OF THE PROPERTY, AND THE VICTIM HEARD A BUZZING/HUMMING SOUND OUTSIDE, POSSIBLY FROM A GENERATOR OR REFRIGERATION UNIT.

Possible locations mentioned have included Cheriton (where FMR dumped his 1996 victim) and New Alfreston, both to the East of Farley Mount; and also Leckford, which is North West of Farley Mount.

The suspicion is that FMR took the victim past Winchester to the east, although it's not certain. He deliberately changed directions/doubled back during the car journey to disorientate his poor victim. He may have taken her 15 miles away from Farley Mount, but the property might actually be a lot closer.

Any suggestions where the property was located would be much appreciated.

*PLEASE DON'T POST INDIVIDUAL PROPERTY DETAILS ON THE PUBLIC BOARD*

GENERAL AREAS/PROPERTY TYPES ARE FINE TO POST HERE <modsnip: Soliciting private messages is not allowed>

We don't want innocent property owners linked to such a horrible crime on a public forum.

Not being negative, but depending on the property location and state of repair theres always the possibility that it no longer exists.
This being the case anyone posting should highlight that there was such a property at such a location.

''Artist's impression of the beast
The monster is described as:

5ft 8 to 6 feet tall, described as taller than average. He was aged between his late 20s to 30s, medium/stocky build with short, dark brown, wavy hair. He always wore either a black ski mask or a balaclava with his hood up. He was also described as of scruffy appearance and wore either black or surgical gloves. No obvious accent was ever identified.

He had a blue/grey shoulder bag or cream satchel which contained black quarter-inch plastic ties and two-inch wide, silver masking tape along with a black Maglite torch''

That article is inaccurate as it mentions a potentially linked attack, which was actually committed by someone else, who was convicted, and who couldn't possibly be the FMR.

IIRC it’s known as Gaffa tape generally, certainly back then I’m sure that’s what it was called.
Its uses are very widespread, so unlikely to help pinpoint his trade unfortunately.
