We haven’t had sentencing yet.

That’s the part where, despite all the evidence and the convictions, the justice system has the habit of letting the victims down.

Expect a woefully inadequate sentence for the mother in this instance, anything that could be remotely considered harsh, or even fitting, would surprise me. JMO

True, but I don’t think murder charges were ever in doubt. What other viable option did Police and CPS have?

It seems to me that murder charges are far more likely applied in infant death these days, than say 20/30/40 years ago - and rightly so.

However, the absurdly lenient sentences make a mockery of the entire process.

For the killer of a child to be free, under licence, in 15 years or less is nothing short of ludicrous.

Being new here I am not sure of whether, following a conviction, we are able to speculate on what we think the sentence might be - or what we might think it should be. Because I have some opinions based on this case which I’d like to share, but won’t, in case it’s against forum policy.

Anyway - it’s interesting that the mother, in this case, self referred herself to social services prior to the child being born. That’s unusual, and should go some way to reducing her minimum custodial sentence, with life being the only option for the judge to hand down to both, given the circumstances. JMO

The tiny youngster suffered 130 separate injuries, including 71 bruises and cuts, 57 bone fractures and two burns in the three weeks prior to his death, some up to two-weeks-old. And in hugely-moving victim impact statements, one family member described his murderer parents as “monsters” saying “when Finley died, part of us died too”, DerbyshireLive reports.

Jailing both for life and telling Boden it would be 29 years until he would be eligible to apply for parole and Marsden 27 years, Mrs Justice Tipples said: “What happened could only have been achieved by two people acting together.

"From all the evidence I am sure the fractures occurred on two separate occasions by sustained, brutal, assaults. By the evening of December 23, he was plainly dying. There was no subtlety, it was totally obvious to both of you.
