True, but I don’t think murder charges were ever in doubt. What other viable option did Police and CPS have?
It seems to me that murder charges are far more likely applied in infant death these days, than say 20/30/40 years ago - and rightly so.
However, the absurdly lenient sentences make a mockery of the entire process.
For the killer of a child to be free, under licence, in 15 years or less is nothing short of ludicrous.
Being new here I am not sure of whether, following a conviction, we are able to speculate on what we think the sentence might be - or what we might think it should be. Because I have some opinions based on this case which I’d like to share, but won’t, in case it’s against forum policy.
Anyway - it’s interesting that the mother, in this case, self referred herself to social services prior to the child being born. That’s unusual, and should go some way to reducing her minimum custodial sentence, with life being the only option for the judge to hand down to both, given the circumstances. JMO
