UK - Freda Walker 86, killed; husband 88, seriously injured, Langwith Junction, DBY, 15 Jan 2022

Reading between the lines it looks as if this is a lone attacker - male - you’d think it’s likely he stalks his victims - using the cover of darkness to eliminate cctv evidence. Why 80’s - perhaps they are just easy targets - he can take out his anger with no resistance. Most 80year olds will be in bed at 12am - 1am with the phone downstairs and no way of raising the alarm.

good link - it implies Freda was found outside. Visiting a neighbour in the afternoon and had contact with someone else early evening. Which then leaves a window of time.

I don't read it that she was 'found outside'. The way I interpret it, is that the next time she was seen, (in the morning) was by someone who didn't live with them (anyone outside of her house)......

"Officers have also been working to understand the times when the couple were last seen alive - and believe Freda was last spoken to at around 6.40pm on Friday evening.
ACC Kirby added: 'We know that Freda visited a neighbour in the late afternoon, leaving the house at around 4.55pm.
'She walked back to her home and then was spoken to at 6.40pm.
'The next time she was seen by anyone outside of her house was when she was found dead the next morning.
'Officers need to speak to anyone who may have spoken to or seen Freda or Ken after that time on Friday evening.'

A 33-year-old man has been arrested for the murder of pensioner Freda Walker and the attempted murder of her husband Ken during an attack on the couple in their home.
The arrest came after police said they had identified a number of potentially 'crucial' witnesses after trawling through CCTV and doorbell camera images in the vicinity of the vicious assault in Langwith Junction, Derbyshire.

"The 33-year-old man was arrested in Warsop on suspicion of the murder of Freda, 86, and the attempted murder of her husband Ken, 88.

He remains in police custody at this time.

Freda and Ken were found at their home in Station Road, Langwith Junction by a concerned neighbour at 9am on the morning of Saturday 15 January.

Freda was pronounced dead at the scene, while Ken was rushed to hospital where he remains in a critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

Since Saturday detectives have been trawling CCTV and conducting house-to-house enquiries to find those responsible in the days since.

Assistant Chief Constable Dave Kirby said: “Today’s arrest is clearly a significant breakthrough in the case but the investigation continues into this most appalling crime.

“Yesterday (19 January) we appealed for people who were on Station Road between 4.30pm on Friday 14 and 9am Saturday 15 to come forward as a matter of urgency.

“That request still remains – so if you were on that street, either on foot or in a car, then please contact us as soon as possible.”

Anyone who may be able to help detectives with their enquiries is asked to contact Derbyshire police using any of the below methods, including reference 240-150122:

"One of the leading lines of inquiry is that it may have been a burglary, and that remains a leading line of inquiry.

"The man was arrested in the early hours and, as you would expect, there will be interviews and so on, and if we can give any more information about motive then we will do - but at this time we can't be conclusive.

"We can't rule out the involvement of anybody else, but at the moment we are focusing our inquiries on this particular man we've arrested.

"As soon as we can update, particularly if the community are worried about any potential further risk to them about whether there might be somebody else, then we will give that update."

Man, 33, arrested on suspicion of murder after OAP, 86, found dead at home & husband critical in ‘burglary' (thesun.co.uk)
''He was arrested in Warsop, Nottinghamshire, five days after the brutal attack and currently remains in police custody.
Derbyshire Police previously said that they were keeping an “open mind” about whether the "appaling crime" was linked to a violent burglary in Trowell, Notts – just 40 minutes away.
An elderly woman suffered a broken jaw and severe swelling to her arm after being attacked by the suspect who demanded money from them on January 6 just after midnight.
Detectives are also looking at a number of similar incidents which have taken place in the “months, years or weeks” leading up to the suspected burglary.''

I guess we can rule him out of the 1990's 'murder/ suicides' then.

Violence against the old and vulnerable is so cowardly and despicable!

To have your life ended in such pain, fear and despair!

My heart breaks for the victims' children and relatives - I just cannot imagine their anguish :(

Were the few pennies stolen worth human life?
