UK - Freda Walker 86, killed; husband 88, seriously injured, Langwith Junction, DBY, 15 Jan 2022

It seems the police know that this happened on the Friday, even though the neighbour didn't find them and raise the alarm until Saturday morning. That means Ken Walker was lying critically injured for many hours.

I'm wondering if he got into the house while Freda was at the neighbour's house and then she walked back into it. Perhaps she was spoken to at 6.40pm but was too scared to say anything if Ken was being attacked, and then she was killed because she could identify him.

"The charges allege the defendant murdered Mrs Walker on January 14 and attempted to murder Mr Walker on the same date."

"Derbyshire Police appealed for anyone who was in the area on Friday evening to come forward as 'a matter of urgency'.

'Hours of CCTV footage has been downloaded and is being viewed - and it is clear from the images that there are a number of people who walk or drive along Station Road between 4.30pm on Friday and 9am on Saturday.

The force said CCTV footage had pinpointed potential witnesses in the area at the time it is believed the couple were brutally attacked in their own home. [...]

ACC Kirby added: 'We know that Freda visited a neighbour in the late afternoon, leaving the house at around 4.55pm.

'She walked back to her home and then was spoken to at 6.40pm."

I assume a PM would have shown an approximate time of death for FW. Giving exact times may hamper the investigation or release potential evidence?

A trial date has been set for a man charged with the murder of an 86-year-old woman and the attempted murder of her 88-year-old husband.

Freda Walker was found dead at her home in Station Road, Langwith Junction, Derbyshire, on 15 January.

Vasile Culea, 33, appeared at Derby Crown Court but spoke only to confirm his name.

After a discussion with prosecution and defence counsel, Judge Nirmal Shant set a date of 4 October for the trial.

I'm glad to hear that Mr Walker is in a stable condition. Must be so awful for him to comprehend.
I hope he is able to give detail to the police which will help with their investigation

man has denied the murder of an 86-year-old woman and the attempted murder of her 88-year-old husband.

Freda Walker was found dead at her home in Station Road, Langwith Junction, Derbyshire, on 15 January and her husband Ken was discovered critically injured and taken to hospital.

Vasile Culea, 33, of Grove Road, Church Warsop, Nottinghamshire, denied both charges at Derby Crown Court on Friday.

Judge Nirmal Shant QC said his trial would take place on 4 October.

Addressing Mr Culea, who followed proceedings through a Romanian interpreter, the judge added: "But before that, you will be at this court on 8 July for all matters before your trial to be finalised.

"In the meantime, you are remanded in custody."

The court was told the trial was expected to last two weeks.
