Found Deceased UK - Giles Jeffery, 53, from South Molton. Devon, last seen Barnstaple area around 2pm, 19 Jun 2023, personal items found Ilfracombe on 21 Jun

#LatestNews - We are seeking the public’s help to locate a 53-year-old man reported missing from South Molton.

Officers are extremely concerned for the welfare of Giles Jeffery who was last seen in the Barnstaple area around 2pm on Monday 19 June.

A number of his personal belongings have today, 21 June, been located in the Lee Bay area, Ilfracombe.

Police are carrying out searches and enquiries in an effort to locate him with the assistance of the police helicopter, HM Coastguard and Exmoor Search and Rescue Team.

Officers are asking for the public to look out for Giles and report any sightings to them.

Giles is described as white, around 6ft 1in tall, of medium build, with short mousy brown hair and grey stubble. His clothing is not known at this time.

Anyone who sees Giles or knows of his whereabouts is asked to contact police via 999, quoting log number 160 of 21/06/23.

I live in Devon but not very familiar with Ilfracombe. Looking up Lee Bay, it looks like there is a beach but also cliffs. No obvious residential areas nearby or businesses. It looks like the sort of place you’d need to make an effort to get to. Do we know if he regularly did any walking, swimming, fishing or boating? And what sort of items were found?

Still so little info out there about him. And these photos don’t even look like the same person. I’m glad LE released the updated one, but probably missed out on useful info as people would have been looking for a totally different person.

Body found in search for missing South Molton man

Devon and Cornwall Police were contacted by South Wales Police on Sunday 2 July following the discovery of a man’s body in the sea within their area.

Formal identification has since taken place and the body is that of 53-year-old Giles Jeffery, who was reported missing from South Molton on 19 June.

His next of kin have been made aware of this development.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
