Human bones found at former Bolton nature reserve

Human bones have been found at a former nature reserve in Greater Manchester, prompting a police investigation.

The discovery was made when officers were called to land close to Aspinall Way in Horwich, Bolton, on Monday.

The bones were later confirmed to be human and inquiries are ongoing, Greater Manchester Police said.

The area is a large section of marshland next to Middlebrook Retail Park, formerly known as Red Moss nature reserve.

A quick Google tells me that 3 or 4 people have gone missing in the area in the last few weeks. But bones… likely to be older?

Please let this be the long awaited answer to some family’s torment (and not an ancient burial site).

Couldn't agree more. Most of the ones I've come across ended up being very old bones so I hope this is different. Just to bring someone a bit of closure.

EDITED as I was thinking of Nicola Payne, but totally wrong area.

Meanwhile:

This is not the first time remains have been found there. In 1943 a mummified head of a teenage girl with red plaits was discovered at the location. The 2,000-year-old head, which had red plaits, has been exhibited across Europe since its discovery.
