Unsolved murder of the 3-year-old girl found with pieces of paper in her stomach
It is almost exactly 80 years since the disappearance and murder of three-year-old Guinstina Macari in Swansea. Her killer has never been identified
...
On May 17 in 1941 it was the most beautiful day Swansea had seen in months.
Three months on from the devastating blitz of the Second World War the day's weather brought with it optimism as people experienced their first taste of summer that year.
But, to one family's horror, the pleasant sun served only as a cruel paradox to the disturbing events that took place that Saturday. It was the last day they would see their three-year-old daughter alive.
Guinstina Macari was known affectionately as Christina.
..
On the afternoon of May 18 a 13-year-old boy who had been staying with his aunt at a farm went out with a friend to a flower plantation about 150 yards from the farm.
It was open country and reportedly a favourite place for courting couples from Swansea.
While crawling about in there he saw Christina still and lying face-downwards – she was dead. A post-mortem examination revealed the little girl had died as a result of suffocation.
Doctors who carried out the tests believed she had been killed on the evening of May 17 and had died elsewhere before being placed where she was later found. They also concluded there were some possible signs of sexual abuse in the run-up to her death, it was reported.
..
Among other things found in her stomach were pieces of plain paper. A considerable number of pieces of paper were found with the largest piece measuring one-and-a-quarter square inches.
..
The murder of little Christina Macari has remained unsolved ever since.

Excellent long longread at the link.
