A senior detective has urged those shielding the killer of a German backpacker in Northern Ireland that it is not too late to do the right thing.

Inga Maria Hauser, from Munich, was murdered 29 years ago shortly after arriving in the region off a ferry from Scotland...

Mr Murray said Ms Hauser had been victim of a "vicious and ruthless assault". Detectives believe whoever killed her had a sexual motive.

Inga Maria Hauser's body was found in a remote part of Ballypatrick Forest, near Ballycastle, County Antrim, on 20 April 1988. Her neck was broken...

A number of years ago, DNA screenings were undertaken to find a match to a male genetic profile found at the murder scene.

However, the 2,000 samples screened failed to find a definitive match.

Two men have been arrested by detectives investigating the murder of a German backpacker 30 years ago.
The body of Inga Maria Hauser was found dumped in a remote part of Ballypatrick Forest, outside Ballycastle, County Antrim, Northern Ireland.
The teenager, from Munich, was last seen alive 14 days earlier on a ferry from Scotland.
The 18-year-old's death in April 1988 remains one of the region's most high-profile unsolved murders.

I watched the BBC Murder in the Badlands prog about Inga, interesting and tragic case, there is a suspect and people who know who he is but won't talk, how to get them to spill the beans?

Watched the programme, very sad indeed.

So we have recovered male dna from Maria, yet this dna does not match the local 'person of interest', who had scratches etc?

Is this case now stalled?
