Blackburn and Darwen Police are asking for the public's help in finding Ioan Butnariu who is missing from home in Blackburn.

Ioan, 20, who also uses the name Mariah, hasn’t been seen since Saturday December 10th and police are becoming really concerned about her.

She is described as around 5ft 11in tall, of slim build with curly brown hair and blue eyes and was last seen wearing black trousers, a red hoodie and scarf and grey trainers. She was also carrying a black and white bag.

We are appealing for information to identify the person in this CCTV image (pictured, top right) who we believe is a witness in our search for missing woman Ioan Butnariu.

Ioan (pictured left and bottom right), 20, who also uses the name Mariah, hasn't been seen since Saturday (December 10).

She is described as around 5ft 11in tall, of slim build with curly brown hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing black trousers, a red hoodie and scarf and grey trainers. She was also carrying a black and white bag.

Following CCTV enquiries, we want to identify the person pictured. They walked up Roman Road and passed the junction of Walton Close, Blackburn, at 4.52am on Saturday. We are appealing to see if this individual has any information about Ioan and are being treated as a witness. They are not suspected of any crime.

Det Con Amelia Nethell, of Blackburn CID, said: “We appreciate the footage is poor quality, but we hope someone recognises themselves and can come forward.

“We are very concerned about Ioan’s welfare and hope the person can help us.

“We would also urge residents in the Fishmoor and Lower Darwen areas to check out buildings and sheds as Ioan maybe sleeping rough.”

In a further update, police are appealing for information to identify the person in this CCTV image (pictured, top right) who they believe is a witness in the search for missing woman Ioan Butnariu.

Following CCTV enquiries, it has been determined that the person pictured walked up Roman Road and passed the junction of Walton Close, Blackburn, at 4.52am on Saturday. Police are appealing to see if this individual has any information about Ioan, and they are being treated as a witness. They are not suspected of any crime.

Why would the police suspect Mariah was sleeping rough? This is a common turn of phrase for suspected runaways...

Video footage of the person they are seeking would help alot too. 6 days is long enough to release more info, if they want help from the wider community.

Hope she gets back safe - its cold out there.

Very sad if true, of course, but I am not sure that this statement is allowable if it hasn't been confirmed in the mainstream media. Do you have a link?

A body has sadly been found today (Friday, December 16) in the search for missing woman Ioan Butnariu.

Ioan, 20, hadn't been seen since Saturday (December 10) after going missing in Blackburn.

This morning the body of a woman was found in Higher Croft Wood off Roman Road.

While the body is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be Ioan.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file with be passed to the coroner in due course.

Our thoughts are with Ioan’s family at this very sad and difficult time.
We also want to thank those who helped in our search for Ioan, including Pennine Mountain Rescue, Bolton Mountain Rescue and Lancashire Fire and Rescue.
