A murder charge. Derbyshire Constabulary.
#CHARGED | A woman has been charged with the murder of Izabela Zablocka, who disappeared without trace 15 years ago.

Izabela, a Polish national, came to the UK in 2009 but stopped contacting family in August 2010, when she was 30 years old. She has never been seen since.

A murder inquiry was launched two weeks ago and human remains, believed to be Izabela’s, have since been found in the garden of a property in Princes Street, Normanton.

Five people have been arrested as part of the investigation so far.

Anna Podedworna, 39, of Boyer Street, Derby, has now been charged with murder, preventing a lawful burial and perverting the course of justice. She remains in police custody and is due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on Friday 6 June.

Two other women aged 39 and 43, and two men aged 41 and 48, were arrested on suspicion of murder and all remain on police bail pending further inquiries.

***Crimestoppers is supporting the investigation by offering up to £20,000 for information the charity exclusively receives - via its website https://crimestoppers-uk.org/ or by calling 0800 555 111 – that leads to the conviction of anyone involved in the killing of Izabela Zablocka. The reward is available for three months and is due to expire on 27 August 2025. ***

"This morning
Anna Podedworna, 39,
appeared before Southern Derbyshire magistrates charged with murder, preventing a lawful and decent burial and perverting the course of justice.

The court heard
the murder said to have taken place between August and October 2010,
and the other charges between August 2010 and June 1 this year.

Podedworna, who was wearing a grey sweater, grey jogging bottoms and glasses and followed proceedings via an interpreter,
spoke only to confirm her details during the brief hearing.

There was no application for bail,
and Podedworna, of Boyer Street, Derby,
was remanded in custody to appear at Derby Crown Court on Monday."

Those arrested would have been in their twenties in 2010. Podedworna specifically would have been 24.

I really admire Izabela's daughter's determination, but I feel absolutely terrible on her behalf! How awful that she's had to grow up and chase this up herself. JMO but Polish authorities have made a mess of this by failing to communicate properly - a body in the back garden the whole time. Goodness me.

The victim never left the UK.
Which was documented.
Her ID was not recorded crossing the border.

So I don't understand how Polish authorities are responsible for something that was happening in the UK 🤔
The local Police in England knew about the disappearance.
They investigated and then the case went cold.

As per the numerous links I've already posted in this thread.

It seems the case was re-opened when new info appeared.
As usually happens in cold cases.

"A woman who was missing for 15 years was killed by her partner and buried in the back garden of their home, a court has heard.

Anna Podedworna, 40, denies the murder of Izabela Zablocka, who was 30 when she was reported missing in 2010, after moving from her native Poland to Derby."

Prosecutors previously told the murder trial that Podedworna had killed Zablocka, cut her in half with a large knife and buried her.

Gaille MacKinnon, a forensic anthropologist, told the court in the bags containing the lower body, the legs were "bent very tightly" at the knee and positioned towards the buttocks.

MacKinnon said in a laboratory examination of the body, all debris in bags were subjected to a sieving process to recover further bones.

Prosecutor Gordon Aspden KC told the court there were a "number of missing bones" that had not been found in the grave or sieving process.

MacKinnon explained to jurors the burial environment could be "very damaging" to bones.

On the day Zablocka died - in around August or September 2010 - Podedworna said she returned home from work when Zablocka began shouting at her, asking why she was 10 minutes late.

Podedworna said Zablocka then grabbed her by the neck and held her up against the wall.

"Initially I was trying to push her away, but it wasn't working so I started to strangle her," she said.

When that did not work, Podedworna grabbed a horse figurine by the living room window and hit Zablocka with it, the court heard.

"After the situation which occurred two weeks prior. I was terrified she wasn't joking, she was trying to kill me," Podedworna told the jury.

The defendant added she did not intend to hurt Zablocka.

"I wanted her to leave me alone, for her to let me go," Podedworna said.

'I felt fear'

After hitting Zablocka a second time with the figurine, she fell to the ground, the court heard.

Podedworna told the jury she checked Zablocka's pulse before attempting to resuscitate her.

When she realised Zablocka was dead, Podedworna said she thought about calling the police and ambulance but decided not to.

"If I called I had no witnesses, nobody would have believed me that I was defending myself," she said.

She feared she would "go to prison for the rest of my life".
