A labourer who murdered the foreman of a site on which they were working together has been sentenced to life in prison.

Elton Sefa, 24, was found guilty of killing 47-year-old John Woodward and handed the life sentence, with a minimum term of 22 years, on Thursday.

Sefa’s lawyers argued for diminished responsibility owing to his psychiatric state, but this was rejected by the court. He was found guilty last week.

He was sentenced on Thursday by Judge Nigel Lickley at the Old Bailey. The 883 days Sefa has spent in remand will count towards his life sentence. He will be 46 when he finishes his minimum term.
