Good! Wrong decision going for self-defence, I think he might've had a chance for manslaughter by diminished responsibility, or even self-defence if it'd been ONE stab wound, but 18? That's never self defence, I'm glad it'll be a long long time before he's free to repeat it. Hope his eventual release is conditional on him taking his medication...

I have some sympathy for CM, if it's true that she didn't know about the murder until later in the day, 28 months almost feels a little harsh, although I appreciate the point that she has previous convictions.

Excellent!! And pretty much as we thought. I wondered if CM might have got a suspended sentence but we now know she had previous.

I am in the minority here, but I wish CM had been given a much stronger sentence. She clearly knew what he had done, all that stuff about he was using her phone and his phone to check re the murder, I dont buy that.

She will be out in 8 months now. No sentence at all imo.

I agree, she knew exactly what he had done and she still didn't do anything about it even if as she says she found out that evening. She could have had NO idea the police were coming the next morning, as she says. You can bet on it they thought they had outsmarted police with his hair cut and shave, or they would not have been there when the police came knocking. I wonder how police were onto him so fast with his sunglasses and hat disguise.

I'm trying to work out how you arrived at 8 months, surely she has to serve at least half, not that it works out at much more. Or did she already serve some time before she was bailed?

Ah my mistake. I was thinking she had been on remand but of course she was bailed - remembering the photo of her now turning up for Court. So 14 months it is.

Decent sentence for the killer

Correct sentence, self defence would have been an absolute travesty with that many stab wounds. The weak justice system needs to take some responsibility for Lee's death as well, this psychopath shouldn't have been walking the streets in the first place with his record including stabbing someone before over a minor argument!

I don't have the answers but we need to do something about people not taking their medication. I've lost count the number of times I've seen murders committed by people who weren't taking their meds.

More stringent use of sectioning? TBH I'm surprised he wasn't committed to Broadmoor rather than a prison sentence.

I think both sentences are fair.

I hope Pencille is too old when he finally gets out to cause any more harm.

As for Mitchell, I hope for her that she gets her life back on track when gets out and learns to make better choices for herself. Better to live alone than shack up with violent men. I think it's not too late for her to make positive changes. Hope so anyway.

Here are some statistics on murder or homicides as they called here in the UK in 2019 and the unfortunate and sad case of Mr Pomeroy is listed along with many others:

Homicide level down for first time in five years:

4 January Horsley, Surrey
Lee Pomeroy, 51, was murdered while travelling on a train into London with his 14-year-old son.

He had got into an argument with a fellow passenger who launched a “frenzied” attack, stabbing the IT consultant 18 times in 20 seconds. Darren Pencille, a paranoid schizophrenic with over a dozen previous convictions, was jailed for a minimum of 28 years.

Mr Pomeroy’s widow, Svetlana said: "On Friday January 4 my life and that of my son changed forever. My husband of 18 years died in a sudden, violent and distressing way."
